David Hicks to be sentenced
David Hicks has plead guilty to providing material support for terrorism... what should his setence be? Where should he serve his sentence? The Australian government is also set to block Hicks from profiting from his story under lthe federal proceeds of crime laws law:

Our 'proceeds from crime' laws are good. Just scored a few million from a drug trafficker locked up in Indonesia. Free money and we don't have to pay for the prison, score!

Just to throw a spanner in the works, he has to convince the judge of his guilty plea and more interestingly, detail what he was up to during 2001 in Afghanistan.
Hicks must persuade judge of his guilt - World - smh.com.au Though looks like the sentence will be one year once he gets back to Australia. 6 years is fair enough for fighting for the taliban, still fair if his al-Qaeda training was just military stuff (and prior to 9/11 when no one gave a crap about Afghanistan). But the fact that everyone has gone to so much trouble to prosecute this guy suggests he was at the more serious end of things. He is the first one up for trial afterall. If so, 6 years seems a bit short? More information is in serious need, probably won't get it though. One person certain to profil will be Mori the Marine lawyer, he is going to clean up with a book deal. Last edited by RadioM : 03-30-2007 at 01:46 AM. |
