Lebanon : UN Resolution after US - France agreement for Peace, must avoid Turkish sly

(This is a text published earlier, by one of our friends, elsewhere, but which remains topical even today)
*******************************

<< - Undemocratic pals of criminals, (even deadly Bomb makers as 2005-2006 FACTS revealed !), and expansionist militarists dangerously near territorial borders, canNOT be entrusted with Peace-building at sensitive Lebanon-Middle East area !
-----------------------

The fact that an agreement for Peace in Lebanon between the U.S. and France, opened the way for a UN resolution and cease-fire, is obviously good news, and the principle seems in accordance with what we had already published, here and elsewhere.

(See, f.ex. : http://www.allforums.net/showthread....d=1#post215446 )

But it's important that an International effort for Peace in Lebanon succeeds,
both in the short and long term.

While many details remain to be definitively decided, an important point, which affects both the real significance and the efficiency on the spot of the whole operation in the sensitive Middle East region, has apparently been left for a second stage :

- Who will participate in a possible international defense force for Peace in Lebanon, is obviously crucial :

Careful, U.S. President GWBush had advised that instead of a direct U.S. physical involvement, the Amerikan contribution might better focus on the main political aspects and possibly on high-tech input about "command-control" and/or other useful points, considering also that the U.S. is, today, largely involved in many other areas of the World, from Afghanistan to Iraq, etc.

This necessarily means a closer involvement by overseas, mainly (but not only) European partners of the U.S., as France and others, who have particular historic and cultural links with Lebanon, as well as with other E.U. members and International partners, may be in a kind of loose cooperation with NATO; or not, but with an adhoc command, specially made for Lebanon at the Middle-East, and under U.N. auspices.

The problem is that U.K. PM M. Blair, curiously, prefers not to send Brittish troops (already involved at Bassorah, Iraq, and elsewhere), but insists to impose the controversial, notiously anti-democratic and expansionist Turkish military, which risks to provoke many dangers in the area, for various converging reasons :

In addition to the concrete points already made (see above and elsewhere), nobody can seriously ignore also the following facts :

- Α general principle, to avoid risky deviations, should be that anyone who might be suspected or tempted for dangerous expansionism in this delicate region, should be avoided, in particular if he has close territorial borders. There is obviously even a greater danger, if someone, like Turkey, has a bad Past of oppressive and retrograde "Ottoman Empire" military occupation at the entire Middle East, against which struggled generations of Arabs, Jews and others to liberate their homelands.

There are many other, much more Peaceful countries, both from Europe, the Mediteranean Sea or the Indian Ocean, etc. or elsewhere in the World, (i.e. Canada, India, the Pacific, etc). This includes also some "Muslim" majority countries (f. ex. Algeria, Tynesia, Maroc, or remote Arab countries, if not Asian, fex. Bangladesh, Brunei, etc). Even if Christian-majority of Boudhist and other such countries, or multi-confessional, might be better seen as NEUTRAL, taking no sides for Muslims or Jews.

- But the point about Democracy and Human Rights, (See above), is particularly important here, not only for the sake of innocent defenseless Civilians, (mostly Families, Women, Children and other fragile Refugees, etc), but also for the Credibility vis-a-vis the People for anyone who might have to take also "strong" measures, when really required.

How Lebanese People feel about the risk of a return to the old Ottoman Empire occupation Past, was expressed very clearly, among others, also by the publication in a well-known Beirut Media, of this photo, of the "new" Chief of the Turkish Military :

>>> Even more important : Nobody should take the grave responsibility to impose to the U.S., France, the U.N., the International Community at large, and to the People of Lebanon and Israel, instead of real Peace, on the contrary, some Turkish military circles who have notoriously dangerous links even with deadly .. Bomb-makers, and other provocators who trigger, maintain and aggravate tension leading to bloody conflicts, as recently published FACTS proved :

> The Turkish general pictured at the above photo of the Lebanes Media, as it reminds, was involved in 2005 in a dark case of intervening in favor of an agent of the Turkish State who had posed ...Deadly Bombs inside a civilian Bookshop, killing simple civilians and triggering a long and dangerous series of violence, demonstrations, brutal interventions, more civilian People wounded or killed, etc. !

>> This seems to be almost a .. frequent practice inside the notoriously undemocratic Turkish Military, since even anOther Turkish general admitted that he had put Bombs even near to the Homes of some People in order to provole tensions in the Kurdish areas as early as since the 1990ies, as many Newspapers wrote last week...

>>> Nobody can forget also the infamous 1998 "Susurluk" Scandal, where a Turkish Politican of the then Governing coalition was found in the same car with a so-called "Security" Chief and a ... deadly Criminal Thug wanted for many Murders, brutal aggressions, destructions, etc..

=> Whoever might attempt to manipulate the International Community in order to impose such notoriously anti-democratic and expansionist Turkish military, a remnant of the abhorred Past of old Ottoman Empire Occupation, who have even many close pals among ... deadly Bomb makers (!), obviously undertake heavy responsibilities,

(As Mr. Brittish "liberal" PM. Mr. Bliar, who notoriously insists to impose Turkey, and possible underlying interests, : see above-cited Facts).

When everybody, (the U.S. - France agreement, as well as the UN and the whole World, including the main actors at the area), urgently ask to take measures for a democratic Peace and Stability, nobody should undertake the grave Responsibility vis-a-vis People and History to impose to them ..even notorious undemocratic pals of deadly Bomb-makers, and other recipes for tragic Destabilisation.

The sensitive Lebanon and Middle East region, where conflicts affect also the larger surrounding area and Worldwide, even the U.S., as well as simple innocent Civilians, Children, Women, Refugees and other fragile People, urgently need help from Democratic, Neutral Countries, who largely respect Human Rights, cannot be suspected for territorial expansionism, and whose Military is beyond any suspicion of being involved with criminals or even deadly Bomb-makers provoking bloody clashes.
-------
Everybody knows that :

A good pie needs the right ingrediants to succeed.

A bad or wrong ingredient can provoke its failure,
and, in the present case, become a recipe for more tragic, inhuman desasters and dangerous DESTABILISATION. >>

Turkish immixion risks to make it a mess ...

(And this was today's additional update)
================================

<< After Turkish FM Abdulah Guhl imposed himself in Lebanon this week, a result was to push European and other important countries all over the World to restrict their aid to UN Lebanon force, and to wait and see how the UN might deal with the substantial questions which remain unanswered.

- F. ex. Germany decided not to send any ground troups, while France (largely expected to lead the UN force) anounced that it adds, for the moment, only 200 soldiers (mainly on reconstruction), followed also by various other European or International partners, who reserved their final position for later-on, according to developments.

This leaves an unexpectedly empty basket, with practically Turkey inside, who risks to make it a catastrophic mess, with its notoriously undemocratic and expansionist Military, responsible of grave violations of Human Rights, and with dangerously close territorial borders, targetting also northern Iraq's Kirkuk, at the sensitive Middle East area, where it reminds the retrograde Ottoman Empire against which struggled Arabs, Jews and other People to free their homelands from centuries of foreign military occupation...

=> If there is any need to add some "Muslim" majority contributors, isn't it better to use many other interested Peaceful countries, located so far away from Lebanon/Middle East's territorial borders, that they canNOT be suspected for expansionist aims, such as, f.ex. Marocco, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Algeria, or Bangladesh, etc. ? There were more than 50 countries considering to help. There is not any rational need to obey to Mr. Bliar's strange insistance to impose troublesome Turkey..>>

Actually I quite like the idea of the earlier empire carrying some of the responsibility for the mess the place is in, rather than all the vitriol currently directed at Britain and France.

Horizon,

What you have stated is possibly the reality of the situation.

However, if one looks at it from the western viewpoint, there is sure a requirement for stability in the region. When Syria was there in Lebanon, there was stability, but not to the likings of the West. Therefore, Syria can no longer be taken into consideration for peace and stability.

The natural choice is thus Turkey since stablility is important for the region and Syria and Iran have to be neutralised. The Lebanese govt is a lame duck as it is.

Reminds me of the metaphor - to catch thief, set a thief!

I am talking from the geo strategic angle of the West and it is the West which calls the shots.

Further, the Moslem nations may not be expansionist, but they are Moslem and so they will have a soft corner for the Hizbs. Now, if some Moslem nation is required to boost the Moslem morale, what could be better than Turkey which is Moslem, desparate to join the EU (and hence will not upset the apple cart) and which the US, to a great extent, given the other Moslem nations in the kitty, trusts.

One must not forget that Israel too has to be pleased with the composition. Most Moslem nations don't recognise Israel. So, why should Israel accept them?
