I can get teak S2S about the same price. Only about a dollar cheaper for rough sawn. The Camphorwood came from a friend that was moving.

But with the problems in burma I'm sure the prices are sky high.

Me too. Heavy as concrete. Heavier than wet pressure treated. Best to predrill all the fastener holes and use anti-mushrooming screws. And it's non-structural, so you're still using wood for joists and posts. There's another type--can't recall the name--that's half the weight of Trex and shaped like half a narrow I-beam. Pretty nice, but pretty expensive. But you know all that. .
Yea, and when you are trying to explain that those 2x8 joist that were going at 24 o/c are now 12 o/c so the price of your wood just doubled.

Not to mention that trex and most (all?) of the composits use sawdust.Normally YP that will swell, and it mildews and down here we have to use composite deck screws.. Ooops preaching to the choir

Speaking of PT wood. What do you think of the ACQ stuff?

I didn't think they still do Terrazo floors. At least the old school type

A neighbor before I left NC had his kitchen done with a poured epoxy floor. It was beautiful and suppose to be the same thing that the wap class has on her mess decks. Had enough give that it felt like hospital floors.

It's the old story: Win one battle, lose another.

I've seen some cheaper composites come apart after a few years. Very surprising.

Seems to be ok. Check back with me in 30 years. The key is not to bury the cut end of the post in the ground. AQC is definately not aluminum friendly. We'd fail inspection if we used the old unpainted utility coil behind a ledger. I've been using thin copper coil stock a bit lately. Otherwise its green and ugly as always.

What do you think of it?

Yeah, coming back into vogue, but expensive.

Is that the stuff that's popular in garages these days? There are 3 grades and I believe the best is a bit spongy...a very little bit.

Haven't seen you on this forum in a while. I was tempted to comment about terrazo (never seen a wheel barrow on ships, other than the fantail, rather guys carrying mixed terrazo in 5 gallon buckets), or maybe cRusty wanting to be a wood worker back when ships were made of wood and powered by slaves with oars....

C'mon Salty. I don't go quite that far back.

However, I did do some work on the Monitor.

Heart Monitor.....

In all seriousness (for a change).. my semi-annual question; How's the hunt for a publisher coming? Have you given up or still have feelers out?

Still have hope. But I've been going over a couple of chapters for reference and I stare at the screen and say, "I wrote THAT?" Well, when you get going on a subject while writing, syntax, spelling, punctuation, etc. sort of slip off to the side.

Job is open for an editor.

Will there be generous remuneration?

Anything about the "flood" of 1982? Did I mention I have pictures of it flooding in the 50's?

I have a chapter on Natural disasters that affected the shipyard. You already gave me some pictures of flooding problems in the late 40's. Neat. And I thank you.

The chapter also includes the Tornado that started up by Dry Dock 1 and hopped northwards right up Downey Avenue and missed my house by only 100 feet.

I also mention the tail end of a Hurricane we got that same month.

Naturally earthquakes and fires are included, such as the main cafeteria burning down in 14 minutes.

Are we talking about the one with Seaside Ave under water? My stuff is from the 50's.

4x4 and 6x6 post seem more apt to twist than the old stuff. And maybe its the distributors down here, but I've noticed that the AQC doesn't seem to penetrate as deep as CCA. One of the reasons the 6 bys are twisting and warping so easy.

Because of the salt air I flash with either stainless or Galv. Any columns that we would hide with break metal (coil trim) now get wrapped with vinyl.

Not the rolled on stuff. This was poured, about 1/8", self leveling, and ready for use in 24hr. Had the same feel as hospital grade linoleum. Nice to walk on, good shine, low maint.
