Warship Camo
I was just wondering to the gentlemen here that would know.
Does the U.S. still use camoflauge on any warships? And if they do, Is it the older style or have they assigned new camo and a new numbering scheme?

You mean like the WWII dazzle paint schemes? I think they decided those were mostly ineffective. Plain 'ol grey works fine for most ships. Although I think there's some sort of Special Ops boat that's painted black or very dark grey.
Dazzle did look kinda cool though, and there's a photo of the Bismarck in dazzle camo where I never did figure out which way she was turning. Perspective was all screwed up by the paint scheme.

Thanks to some experiments done on a miss-named Destroyer Escort in 1944, Haze Gray was the best blending in color, especially on Hazy Days. The undersides of overhanging platforms were painted Off-White to cut down on shadowing against the bulkheads. |

Missouri was completed with the Measure 32/D camo scheme, using Navy Blue, Haze Grey and Pale Grey in a long wavy pattern. IIRC she later adopted the all navy blue measure 21 scheme.
Wisconsin used the Measure 22 scheme, which used Navy blue up to the lowest piont of the main deck and Haze grey on all other virticle surfaces. Iowa also sported the measure 22 scheme. Other popular schemes for BB's was Measure 12 which used Sea Blue, Ocean grey and Haze grey in a short virticle wavy pattern and Measure 1, using Dary grey on all verticle surfaces up to the funnel caps, everything above was painted Light Grey.

I see cRusty changed his avatar a bit, now it's more of a crop. I just realized that it was so long ago, that he was in his mid 40's back then. So.... instead of cRusty back then, I guess he was just Tarnished.....
Another observation is that this board pretty much comes to a stand still during weekends.... Are most of the members posting from their work computers? |

I've been on vacation for a week now, so I at least get on and read everyday.
BTW, what the heck is the LCS 2? Looks expensive, and why does it have manned AA guns???
