Its a shame because as ugly as the G-3's were they would have outclassed the Lexington, Nagato, Akagi and Amagi class BC's. The Lexingtons as orriginally designed gave a new meaning to the BC's nickname of "Eggshell armed with sledge hammers", a truely frightening design armor wise.

Me and my friends just watched the movie yesterday, it's a weird feeling rooting for Japan to win against an America, but the movie was good in showing the other side of the fight. All in all as good as any war movie to come out in the last 10 years or so. Slightly more depressing than American movies (since we always win in ours). And I think they did a great job on Yamato, some of the larger shots were a little fuzzy, but all the deck shots and sets were superb.

Last year in May, I had the chance to visit the movie-set.
That is, the 1:1 mock-up where they shot the movie. Was really impressive! It was just on the way back to my trip to Kure and the Yamato museum. The movie is like other Japanese movies in general. Dark, moving, dramatic. Not a Kurosawa, but definitively better then a lot of Hollywood's hits! |

Did you see Letters from Iwo Jima? It was odd to root for the "bad guy" in that movie. |
