HMS Warspite, went to the breakers in 1948, the KGV were all paid off by the 1950's, so none really.
Warspite holds the record for the longest gunfire hit, pity such fire control was not in evidence at Jutland.

I still cant believe the Brits didnt save any of dreads or the battlecruisers. For a nation so rich in Naval tradition you would think they would have atleast museumed one of them irregardless of which class. Hey Spart we are both approaching the 1000 mark and they still havent tossed us yet...lol wooohooo! ![]() |

I hear ya, Dread almost 1000 posts! Not senior members yet either!
Oh, there are still some BB's around, but you will need a wet suit (or a mini sub) to see them. There is Royal (or should I say, Royaled) Oak, at Scarpa Flow, Barham in the Med (can't be too good, her Mags blew), Hood in the Denmark Starits (see comment on Barham), POW and Repulse in Malaaca, and of course, Invincible, Indefatigable and Queen Mary some where in the North Sea. Reason the Brits did not save any, was that since the British Empire had paid for them, and very soon after WWII, the Empire went belly up. Needed the money. |

Ahh well that explains it. Actually to me I would like to see the Prince of Whales. She was the last RN battlewagon built with the classic stem stern. They say when she got torped it slammed one screw against the other. Can you imagine the noise, vibration and destruction that had been going on whilst trying to defend herself from attack? She didnt have to get aerial bombed, the screw damage alone made her completely useless and a sitting duck when she stoped forward motion. From that point no AA defense they could put up would have saved her she was finished. Last edited by Dreadnought : 02-03-2006 at 13:54 PM. |

OK, another easy one. And no Googling to find the answer!!
What ship can lay at least some claim to being a BBG? And no, Tomahawks don't count!

By "one on one" do you mean no other ships were present, or just no other battleships? I'm guessing it musta been during Guadalcanal, but I don't remember a battle where we had just one battleship involved.
Or perhaps you're including pre-dreadnoughts?

Other ships and even battlewagons were present but these two ships eithe ronly took fire from each other during the engagement, although one ship had just disabled another vessel it did not take any damage in the first exchange.
