    Vallejo & USS IOWA BATTLESHIP

What is going on with the USS IOWA BATTLESHIP? I've been following up on all these sites that give you updates about the IOWA. However I've been so dissapointed that lately its as if the USS IOWA is non existence. At first it seemed as if Stockton was going to get the ship but then I read all these articles that they were out. I found another group from Vallejo but the same information. It will be a crying shame if this ship just gets ignored. I have a lot of family memebers who served in the Navy and a uncle who actually took a great photo of the USS IOWA in 1945.

I really don't care who gets this ship as long as its given to a group who will bring it back to life. It really seemed as if it was getting close with all these sites showing photos of how it will look if it becomes a museum well that was only Stockton.

Does anyone care, I sure hope so because if you go search on the internet there is no new information since the article I read about Stockon pulling out. Well I'm a loyal fan to the Battleship.

May the ship be placed with the right people. People who really care about the ship and the people who will bring it to life.

The proposals for the ship have been submitted. But the Navy has not responded yet.

    Navy's options are:
    1. Award it to Stockton (doubtful as Port of Stockton withdrew its support)
    2. Award it to HSMPS to berth the ship at Mare Island.
    3. Not award the ship to anybody at this time and later open up for new submissions of bids hoping to draw in more contenders.
    4. Not award the ship to anybody and put it up for sale for scrap.
    5. Not award the ship to anybody, strip it of hazardous materials and old primer paint, take it out to sea and sink it as a breeding reef for fish.

    Rusty,

Thanks for the information but I already knew that Stockton had pulled out. Its on the internet.

I just hope it doesn't end up in bottom of the Ocean. I sure hope the Navy is still taking care of this ship.

I do have a lot more information of materiel conditions and possibilities of conversion to a museum and meeting ADA standards for handicap visitors (already found a company that can make the watertight doors).

This is all on the technical side, however, base upon the two inspections I led aboard the ship last year.

The administrative side I leave up to others and now it's just a waiting game.

Mr. L. Is that pic taken in the Officers Ward on the 01 level aboard Iowa?

    Those tables look awful familiar.

It is the Officer's Wardroom, but on Main Deck, not 01 level. The picture was taken during out August inspection as I was briefing the group on the history of the ship and the modifications we did to her in the 1980's.

Directly above is the Captain's in-port Cabin that was President Roosevelt's cabin for one of his secret trips overseas.

My bust Mr. L. I meant the main deck. Noticing how different the two rooms look aboard the sisters. Have you been able to email Max?

Even Max's co-author on mothball fleets, R.B., doesn't know his latest address. If you see Max again, please tell him to get back in contact with me.
