If you know, they wouldn't be good.

Are you looking for specific names....or nationalities...or service branches...?
“He was the most prodigious personification of all human inferiorities. He was an utterly incapable, unadapted, irresponsible, psychopathic personality, full of empty, infantile fantasies, but cursed with the keen intuition of a rat or a guttersnipe. He represented the shadow, the inferior part of everybody’s personality, in an overwhelming degree, and this was another reason why they fell for him.”

The ones who train hard...they generally end up in the ARA teams.

That depends on the country and the doctrine followed, but generally army infantry and special forces units have snipers and most do a decent job.

BTW Russians have quite a reputation. In Israel the settlements are protected by volunteers and many are middle-aged emigrants from the former Soviet Union - many of them are snipers or so I believe.

                Cheers!...on the rocks!!

I believe that Canadian snipers are the best because they do hold the record for world longest shot at 2400 meters which hit an enemy driving a supply truck in Afganistan. But if the question is within the US then I'd say the marine corp has the best snipers. Don't forget that the US has allies that it uses to train along side with such as Britain for example, but there are some many other countries to.

You really have no idea what snipers do, do you?

Mainly recon but when they get the clearence and situation fire. Also snipers that are equiped with .50 cal are using them as anti-vehicle and in some rare cases low flying helicopters. WHen I say anti-vehicle I mean light armored truck, cars, and other things such as air craft on the ground. Snipers are also used to ,metaforically speaking cut the had off the snake by shooting colonels and other officers. This is only when snipers are able to take the shot and even then they also have to worry about concealment so even shooting is not propper protocol. What I hate is when people mix up pathfinders with snipers sure a pathfinder can carry a rifle but pathfinders have different objectives.

The best snipers in the world are the Russians and Scandinavians. And, since not many Norwegians have seen any real action lately, the crown goes to the Russians.

Aye. Also, Israel has ordered a few ex-Russian military personnel to fight on its behalf. They were so effective and ruthless, that the fear was immense. But Israel had to let them go, because they were indiscriminate in their shots, and killed people they shouldn't have. What you cannot control, you shouldn't use.

Ah, the all important 'anti-helicopter-in-flight' mission role.

"US Snipers...like Stinger missiles- but BETTER".

All people will claim national pride as to which country has the best snipers...!! Just like many post on these forums are more based on national pride then on factual objectices or views based on experienced or reality..!!!

I havent fought or worked with 'outside' / other sniper groups from other countries..so cant state there effectivness or if they are best in the 'world'
I can however speak about the RM snipers who iv had the pleasure of training/working, with and seeing what the can do is outstanding...!! Sniping is an artform and a soilder of high skill/patienace/cuningness is called for..!!

                            ---------------------------------------------------------------
Just an example of the RM snipers at workk.........!
                            ----------------------------------------------------------------
ARMED Royal Marines race to a disabled boat with £200million of cocaine on board after a sensational high seas chase.
Four smugglers tried to OUTRUN a 200mph Lynx helicopter after they were rumbled in Caribbean waters patrolled by the frigate HMS Cumberland.

But two specialist Marine snipers on the chopper fired at the high-speed boat’s four engines — and knocked out each one.

The incredible shots from 100 metres followed six hours of nerve-jangling drama.

HMS Cumberland had rushed to intercept the traffickers after a tip-off from the US Drug Enforcement Agency.

She got within range 100 miles off the coast of Nicaragua with her support vessel, the Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship Wave Knight, in tow.

The smaller ship sent up its Lynx chopper with the expert team on board.

But the smugglers — careering along in a vessel dubbed a “go-fast” by the Navy — refused to stop despite repeated appeals.

It was only after they were nearing land and looked like escaping that shots were fired — leaving them bobbing in the water.

The chopper then hovered overhead as the Marines kept their devastating 0.5 inch AW50 rifles trained on them.

Cumberland arrived an hour later and sent out Marines in two inflatables to arrest the smugglers, who meekly held up their hands.

Last night top brass heaped praise on the operation — and the commando snipers.

Marine Lt Col Andy Price, of Fleet Command in Portsmouth, said: “This type of shooting is unparalleled. It’s the ultimate professional shot.

“To hit that small target in rough seas from a moving platform and miss everyone else on the boat is formidable.

“These guys are highly trained and we are very proud of what they have done.”

Two tonnes of coke wrapped in dozens of tightly-bound bales were found on the boat.

It was destined for the streets of Britain and America.

The smugglers, all South American, were handed over to the US Coastguard, who supported Saturday’s operation.

One British government official said: “This bust will really hack off the cartel bosses.

“It’s going to affect supply on the street all over the US and Europe for some time.”

Delighted Defence Secretary John Reid said yesterday: “This is a great success for the Royal Navy.

“Drugs are a scourge of civilised society, crippling the lives of millions.

“For that reason, I pay tribute to the crew of HMS Cumberland, whose professionalism and commitment to the task has dealt a sledgehammer blow to the drug traffickers.”

The Type 22 frigate, based at Devonport, is on a four-month patrol in the Caribbean. It is there to give humanitarian aid and disaster relief assistance if needed.
