Depends on the rate of fire propelant and metals involved.......
There have been successful machineguns with various cooling systems that didn't have a quickchange barrell..... (these have mostly been heavy weapons.)
There are also many that have failed. From the article there isn't enough info.
From other sources its at 600 Rounds per minute.......
It stands a pretty good chance of working at that RPM is they use a fairly heavy duty barrel with forced cooling that works.
When there's no barrel to be exchanged there's no guy who needs to carry that spare barrel (incl. transport box), so that guy can carry more ammo or other equipment.
