    Thanks Rick :)
“He was the most prodigious personification of all human inferiorities. He was an utterly incapable, unadapted, irresponsible, psychopathic personality, full of empty, infantile fantasies, but cursed with the keen intuition of a rat or a guttersnipe. He represented the shadow, the inferior part of everybody’s personality, in an overwhelming degree, and this was another reason why they fell for him.”

Thank you very much! Probably the best one I've read in some time.

If no one has yet to develop a BM that can hit a ship at sea, why in hell is the DoD assuming China could?

I guess it's concerned with the supposedly increased accuracy on the IRBM and SRBM. They are putting active radar guidance on the BMs.

We haven't been able to do that with ground based rockets against moving tanks, at least not without spotters.

              OoE:

There has been some interesting developments with the "Varyag" recently.

It looks like PLA painted it grey, moved it to another place in a harbor.
And at that new place they have some BIG infrastructure built. It's still in a development, like they stil assemble some big cranes.

Do you think they might finish it as something serious?

The biggest issue is the powerplants. We haven't seen any. There's alot of speculation but nothing that we can confirm. About the only thing I can tell you is that security is awfully tight for refurbing a supposedly casino.

Then again, I've seen some casino security that would put my CFBs to shame.

No no no. This is defenitely some STRANGE casino.

This blue building down from the carrier is new, so is a big pile of containers in front of it. Looks too big to make casino tables. Don't you think? ;)

We noticed all that but again, the lack of powerplants (and they should be going in now) is what's driving us nuts in figuring this out.

The place have no covered dock, so if they cut the thing in half everybody would notice.
They could just cut a side and try to assemble powerplants about the same way it was removed. In that case it would be hard to see.

Bringing those things to the docks would be hard to miss.

There's another consideration. China doesn't have that kind of expertise. I think only Russia and the Ukraine does. We do know that they try to buy the powerplants from the Ukraines but that deal fell through.

well, it could be that Varyag will never leave the deck and it will just be used as launching and land site for fighters that will be put on future carriers.

You're kidding right? Launching and landing site....for what? VTOL aircraft?

Why not just use the shipyard parking lot?
