vodka = evil.

true that...
the best place where vodka brought me was to the back of the car with a hot chick, the worst place where it brought me... was to a hospital.
not as bad as one of my mates, lying under a tree with his pants down after a party and a bottle of vodka in his hand drowning in puke...
although that was quite funny.

but anyway the conclusion i came to is that you should never drink past the point where you are feeling really tipsy.
if you start feeling weak in your legs and start losing your speech then you should stop. if you continue drinking past that point, you are either gonna somehow stumble home with the help of your friends, or going to end up somewhere you dont want to.

Parihaka
30 Nov 04,, 05:01
I can't vote at the top as I like them all. lets see Gin of all types of course, vodka IF its russian, any sort of scotch but a special nod to the fine men of Tain, can't abide those sweet bourbon thingies you americans make sorry (unless there's nothing else around), white wine over red due to tannin but do like some Australian reds, beer, anything not made in Australia or (again sorry) America. Couldn't make beer to save your lives, or mine. So basically with a few exceptions anything made with grape grain hops or potato, I have heard that some of the woodshaving spirits made by american POWs in WWII weren't to bad at all....

didn't vote, because I like wines, beers, and liquors equally.

But not all wines: no cheap crap, please. Heavy, room-temperature reds and crisp whites...mmm.

And not all beers: American mass-brews SUCK. About the only non-micro I can stand is Sam Adams (which I like quite a bit, actually). Mexican is nice in certain situations (the beach, for instance) British are good most anytime, but German is so dam' GREAT at ANY time that I need to find a way to make it go on my pancakes in the morning.

And definitely not all liquors: tequila of any kind makes me retch just to smell it. Gin is so dam' vile I wouldn't drink it with a gun at my temple. Likewise. vermouth. (And which nauseous masochist thought to combine them, may God smite him for all eternity?) Any of the deKuyper's 'lollipop liquors' (HotDamn!, Apple Pucker, Razzmatazz, and the like) are just sugary poisons. Certain brand-specific avoid-at-all-costs are Christian Brothers brandy, Bushmills whiskey and that rum that shall remain namelss and has no relation to any surgarcane anywhere in it's lineage.

So, mostly, the list of what I will NOT drink is far, far shorter than what I like.

All depends on the day! On a nice sunny cool one...nothin ike a good bordeaux or Sauvignon! on a dull over cast gloomy day I'd take a nice bitter/ 'oaty' IPA! but only a good micro brew!

When with Russians, you down 'Vaaadka'! :)

When at the 'Brillo Pad' ( where I work part time as a bar tender ), I stick to dirty martinis or plain old Stoli on the rocks!!

How can you liike Boddingtons? Even I hate it, and I'm from Manchester. I used to live a minute away from the brewery, and would get the lovely smell of the barley brewing.

I started drinking regularly when I was 14-15 (can't really remember now), used to drink alcopops. cheap beers, white lightening, £1 bottles of wine, gin or anything we could buy without getting caught.

As I've got older I've been able to appreciate finer wines and whisky, and drink vodka with my greek/east european buddies.

Sohail,

No I am not a Moslem nor do I subscribe to any religion.

I believe in the good aspect of all religion including Islam. I believe sincerely in Christian comapssion.

As a military man, I have seen bloodshed and death - total waste, just for a piece of land.

I wonder if yu remember Pink Floyd's song

"Us And Them"

Us and Them
And after all we're only ordinary men
Me, and you
God only knows it's not what we would choose to do
Forward he cried from the rear
and the front rank died
And the General sat, as the lines on the map
moved from side to side
Black and Blue
And who knows which is which and who is who
Up and Down

Very powerful. Very true.

When you have seen death at so close quarter, you start wondering where is God, oif indeed there be GOd.

Sorry, this is off topic, but I wrote since you wanted to know.

My grandmother's mother was a Moslem (or so I am told). My family has all religions represented. Therefore, religion does not charge me up. because each of the religion as reperesnted by the people in my family apparently looks good.

The elephant was Pi$$E-D off with the mahoot.
So just to cool its temper , it played a game of soccer with the mahoot.I mean the ball was mahoot.

The elephant was subsequently injected anaesthesia(damn spellings ! ) via a gun , tied down to a coconut tree and beaten until it promised not to play soccer with mahoots again.

And then again the elephant wanted to play soccer , they tied him down to the tree , then he promised. It went on and on , until the poor thing died out of injuries.

Normally I will drink Bombay Sapphire + Tonic, Bombay Sapphire + Cranberry or Smirnoff + Coke. If we are on a company night out then we will generally have champagne. If I am eating steak then I generally have red wine with that, but otherwise I don't really drink wine.

And saving the best for last, as explained by Cliff Clavin,
of Cheers. One afternoon at Cheers, Cliff Clavin was explaining the Buffalo Theory to his buddy Norm.
Here's how it went:
"Well ya see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo
can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when
the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones
at the back that are killed first This natural selection is
good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the
regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the
slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we
know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers."
WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may make you think you are whispering when you are not.

Yes it's possible to drink it in shots. I usually mix it with something though because it's basically a really strong Vodka.

Just curious as to preferences.

Can't drink. I'm an alcoholic, sort of. (Hey, this is AA.com, isn't it?)

:frown:

Seriously, sad but true. I quit beer (always so good with pizza) back in 1992, because I was overdoing it. Had hardly a drink in 13 years--almost literally nothing, except your very occasional glass of wine with dinner at restaurants or family functions (once about every other year, probably). Ended up with a bottle of wine in my fridge, and when I finally uncorked that after six years taking up space, I wanted a glass every night last week.

So I threw the rest of it away, never to drink again except on very special occasions. It's weird, as it never got to be a big problem; but I'm just better off without the chemical dependency urges. A would-be alcoholic with perfect self-control. I sort of wish that weren't the case, as wine or mixed drinks are sort of interesting to the palate, and useful after a fashion socially. But I guess some of us just can't deal with the chemical effects.

basicly beer (pils, export, wead beer) almost every weekend not during the week.

second favorit is red wine mostly from the new world like californian, south african, australien and red wine from chile.

hard stuff like vodka, whisky and various schnäpse only once in a while couse the headake the next day is to painfull since i get older.

nothing beats a wead beer (weizenbier kristall/hefe) mixed with bananajuice. i know it sounds disgusting but it tasts really good.
