  • Question about making an APC

How viable do you guys think it would be to take the tracks and engine off an excavator (like the ones Caterpillar makes) from a junkyard and welding together a box on top with the controls inside to make an APC?

Maybe make a miniature scale, operational model of an M113.

You actually want to do this or do you just want to know?

It's possible but you couldn't go in very ruff terrain with out adding shocks.

Just don't go out on the Highway and not expect for a Cop to pull you over;)

Just buy a surplus M-113. It would probably cost less, and yeah, the US Army does sell them to civilians.

Gotta keep an eye out in your local paper for surplus sales.

They have em a few times a year.

There is some madman in Montana that built a fully functional Cobra gunship from crates of parts he bought at surplus sales.

No, it works. He hunts Coyote with it.

A mini-gun is completely legal to own for anyone with a Federal Class III tax stamp.

I read an article about it a few years ago. The Sherrif said he doesn't bother anyone, so he don't care.

Alright... I gotta start going to those surplus sales.

                    I'm surprised you haven't tried to get a M-88 for repo'ing Snipe ;)

I've read that those Class III's basically allow the Feds to show up at your doorstep and say "Hi, step aside while we go through your entire house without any need for permission from you!"

Or if he had to go into an area where body armor just wouldn't cut it.... besides the ma duce mounted on it would discourage anyone from arguing with him about whether or not he could leave with what ever he came to get........including a house...... :D
