PRF resolves to support right to self-determination for Kashmir
Asks India to stop ‘human rights abuses’
    GK CORRESPONDENT

    Jammu, Aug 1:
The Punjab Rights Forum (PRF) in a resolution on Saturday expressed complete solidarity with the people of Kashmir in their struggle for self-rule and endorsed the call for right to self-determination of the people of Kashmir.

“Through this resolution we commit solidarity with the people of Kashmir in their struggle to seek the right of self-determination,” said Mehta Adeep Singh President Shiromani Akali Dal (A) in a joint resolution passed with PRF at a convention on human rights violation at Trikuta Nagar.

The PRF, a conglomerate of political activists and human rights activists, has been structured to join hands for what they called “a unified fight against state repression.”

Castigating the government and the security forces involved in the killing of three children in Bangargund, Kupwara, the PRF has termed the act “as extrajudicial murder by the 6th Batallion of the Rashtriya Rifles.”

“ The guilty army personnel and their top brass should not allowed to go unpunished on a ‘plea of mistaken identity’ and fast track justice should be done,” the resolution underlined.

Above incident is not an isolated one, the PRF resolution said while adding the Indian Armed Forces are blatantly violating all the human rights and humanitarian rights convention.

The PRF impressed upon National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to enhance its scope in Kashmir.

The resolution appealed the international community for more international attention to the plight of the Kashmiri people. “ All western democracies, human rights activists and human rights organisation pressurise India to allow official access to Amensty International, International Committee of the Red Cross, Human Rights Watch to visit Kashmir and Panjab,” the resolution said.

It should shock the world that for 23 years, these reputed international bodies have been denied access to various parts of India which are engaged in a struggle for survival and recognition, the resolution added.

Moreover, the PRF has appealed to all parties concerned in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure the resettlement of Kashmiri pandit from their places of dislocation.

The resolution urged PDP government not to imitate the policies of the Punjab government and desist from illegal detention of Sikh youth in Jammu.

The organisation who participated in the convention were Punjab Human Rights Organisation, International Human Rights Organisation, Movement Against State Repression, Lawyers for Human Rights International, Khalra Mission Committee, Human Rights and Democracy Forum, Lok Raj Sangathana (New Delhi), Shrimoni Akali Dal (Amritsar), Shiromani Akali Dal (Longowala), Sikh Students Federation, Dal Khalsa, SGPC Member- Karnail Singh Panjoli, Bharti Kisan Union (Rajewal), Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta), Sikh Nari Manch, Indian Ex-services League (Panjab and Chandigarh), Damdami Taksal, Shrimomani Khalsa Panchayat and Sikh Human Rights Group (South Asia).

Sadly the Right to self determination is what india has denied people of Kashmir for almost 58yrs now.

Such a resolution will indeed give alot of morale boost to Kashmiri freedom struggle and its citizens. Now lets wait and see how the Kashmiri's respond with a resolution of their own supporting Khalistan

The problem goes back further, actually it was British who denied the Right of Self Determination to 450 million people of the Indian sub-continent and partitioned the country even though majority of these 400 million people were not in favor of partitioning the country.

If only the British had allowed the Right of Self Determination to 450 million people of the sub-continent, majority would have choosen to not-parttion the country, thus there would not be Pakistan, and thus no kashmir problem.

You see Kashmiris alone can't have the Right of Self Determination, let the 1.4 billion peolpe of the sub-continent have Right of Self Determination and vote on the issue of Partition itself which was denied to them in 1947.

hahahahahaha....as if Pakistan gave the Kashmiris in PoK or the Baluchistanis and Bangladeshi the right to self determination. India had to liberate Bangladesh from your army of terrorists who were raping and murdering millions of Bangladeshis. Sooner or later, we may have to save the Baluchistanis from the same cowardly army of terrorists(the PA ofcourse). As for all this Khalistani crap...for some reason, many Punjabis(Indian or Pakistani) seem to think they are better than other people from the subcontinent. They have some kind of superiority complex and they go ballistic when they realize that they are not any better than other people on the subcontinent. For example, many Punjabis think they are the best dancers on Earth just because they can wave their hands up in the air during Bhangra songs. These Khalistanis don't give a crap about Sikhism..they just htink they are better than everyone else. I personally have no problem with Punjabis or any other people from the subcontinent...but i find it ridiculous when people want to seperate from a country because they think they are better than other people from that country. Remember what happened in 71'...the Punjabi majority in Pakistan did not want a Bengali guy to lead them(since they consider Bengalis to be inferior because they tend to have darker skin that the average Punjabi)...they went and massacred millions of Bengalis in the name of religion.

Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, India - A convention of human rights and political rights activists was organized on July 30, 2005, at Trikuta Palace in the northern province of Jammu, under the aegis of the Punjab Rights Forum, to deliberate and discuss human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir.

Human rights activists, political activists and workers of various political parties from all parts of Jammu and Kashmir attended the convention and expressed concern at the growing abuse of civil, political, religious and economic rights in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Punjab Rights Forum appealed to the People’s Democratic Party government of Jammu and Kashmir to desist from illegal detention of Sikh youth. “We are concerned that a large number of Sikh youth in the Jammu province of Jammu and Kashmir have been [illegally] detained and harassed by Jammu police.” The Forum threatened to take immediate legal and political actions against any illegal police activity.

The Forum brought attention to the extrajudicial murder of 4 juveniles who were shot dead on July 24, 2005, in the Bangargund village of Kupwara district by the 6th Battalion of the Rashtriya Rifles. The Forum demanded exemplary compensation be paid to the families of the boys - Bilal Ahmad Sheikh, 15, Wasim Ahmad Wani, Shabir Ahmad Shah and Manzoor Ahmad Shah, 16 – and that the guilty army personnel and their top brass be prosecuted immediately.

The incident is not an isolated one, stated the Forum, the Indian Armed Forces are flagrantly violating all human rights and humanitarian rights conventions. They called upon the National Human Rights Commission to ask the government of India to enhance its authority, enabling it to monitor and adjudicate upon the role of the army in Kashmir and other parts where it is deployed. This is particularly necessary, they said, as fifty percent of the Indian armed forces are deployed on domestic duty in various parts of the country.

The Punjab Rights Forum made an appeal to the international community for more international attention to the plight of the Kashmiri people. “Western democracies, human rights activists and human rights organizations all over the world should [put pressure on] India to allow official access to Amnesty International, the International Committee of the Red Cross and Human Rights Watch to visit Kashmir, Punjab and the north-east to monitor gross and systematic abuse of human rights. It should shock the people of the world that for the last 23 years, these reputed international bodies have been denied access to various parts of India that are engaged in a struggle for survival and recognition.” The convention noted that disallowing such organizations from visiting India is a clear confession of guilt of human rights excesses by the Indian State.

The Punjab Rights Forum also expressed complete solidarity with the people of Kashmir in their struggle for self-rule and endorsed the call for right to self-determination of the people of Kashmir.

How about people of Pakistan? How much right of self determination do they have? Any Tom/Dick or Harry can topple the elected government & declare himself the head of the state. Atleast People of Kashmir have their rights to cast the vote & elect their popular government and they rightly did so in the last general elections. 60% was the turn-out and it was declared by the UN that the elections were free & fair. Kindly, leave this hoopla of Freedom Struggle. Sans Violence, people of Kashmir can enjoy a much better life than people of Pakistan.

About Khalistan? lesser said the better. Khalistan supporters do not even enjoy a decent popularity in their own state of Punjab. Khalistan supporters have been marginalized into small pockets in Toronto and some parts of Canada.

But, how about Baluchistan? They have been asking for right for self-determination aswell. Is Pakistan government going to give them their right or is it going to carry out the same kind of genocide that it did in eastern pakistan in 71?

DT: Baloch nationalists fear that they will be outnumbered by the labour force employed at Gwadar. Drawn from Punjabis and Pushtoon, this labour force will turn them into Red Indians?

MKA: Their fears are not misplaced. This is the reason for their resistance. What happened to the gas discovered in Sui? What happened to the rivers that belonged to the Pushtoons? What happened to the land that belonged to Serakis? Army generals were allotted huge tracts of land for a mere Rs 500. The Baloch have no interest in Gwadar becoming another Switzerland. They know that it won’t belong to them any longer. The entire population of Balochistan is hardly six or seven million. The entire local population of Gwadar can be wiped out easily. They are right. We should support the Baloch.

                    ...

DT: Will you shed some more light on their and other nationalists’ reason for taking up arms?

MKA: Balochistan has been producing gas since the 1950s. But the Baloch or Pushtoon living in this province are not benefiting from it. Even today, a Baloch woman collects wood for fuel while people living 1,400 miles away are benefiting from the gas. The Pushtoon province produced the largest amount of electricity before the One Unit was established. It costs 25 paisas to produce hydro electricity sold for five rupees. Why should a Pushtoon pay for the costly Quetta power plant? If you talk of Pakistan, then you should also make me a partner in the other areas of Pakistan; make me a partner in prosperity. But the amount of electricity Balochistan gets equals the electricity loss of Lahore’s industrial units.

Paa jee, it is not only the Kashmiris that the Indians have denied their right of self-determination to, but all other freedom seeking peoples and nations that want their independence from foreign Hindustani occupation have been denied the same.
