Meryl Streep and Justin Trudeau, two elitists in a pod

For the first time this year, and going back to Christmas, Justin Trudeau’s itinerary as put out by the Prime Minister’s Office no longer has him taking “Personal” time.

Monday had him in “Private Meetings.”

It’s about time.

While Trudeau was basking in the sun with family and unnamed friends on the Aga Khan’s private island in the Bahamas, disconnecting himself from average Canadians, CTV reported his two top aides — chief of staff Katie Telford and principal secretary Gerald Butts — were purportedly hunkered down at various times in Washington with advisers to president-elect Donald Trump.

Their mission, apparently, was to salvage whatever possible from the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which Trump has promised to rip up in favour of a more protectionist deal.

Some $1 billion in trade presently flows between our borders on a daily basis, which also amounts to almost three-quarters of our nation’s total exports.

This is no small potatoes.

One has to wonder, therefore, what possessed Trudeau to stir the beast by announcing he would not be attending Trump’s presidential inauguration in 10 days when there is ample evidence that Trump does not take insults lightly.

Even before Meryl Streep finished her elitist admonishment of Trump at the Golden Globes, social media was already forecasting that Trump’s reaction would be to call her “over-rated.”

He responded as if on cue, putting out a three-part tweet denying (despite video proof) that he ever mocked a disabled reporter during the election, and then denigrating the multi-award winning Streep (Oscars and Golden Globes) for being “over-rated,” just as those on the sidelines predicted.

Progressives ate up Streep’s comments, of course, and totally ignored the fact that Streep, while an iconic Hollywood star, is also a privileged white snob who, not to be outdone, took a parting shot at the multi-millions of ordinary Americans who happen to love football and the head-to-head battles of mixed martial arts.

To Streep, this would be all that would be left for the hoi polloi to entertain themselves if her beloved Hollywood, so precious to her precious self, got swallowed up by Godzilla.

It was a pompous insult of the very people who have made her incredibly rich through their purchase of movie tickets.

But no one in the media, whether mainstream or social, pointed out Streep’s slagging of the majority of Americans.

Instead, they all but genuflected before her.

So what now? It is tradition, after all, that one of the first engagements of a new president is to acknowledge the importance of America’s neighbour to the north, either by visit or invitation.

Yet Trudeau has already announced he will not be personally attending Trump’s inauguration, preferring instead to go on an Ontario and western Canada tour of Tim Hortons coffee shops to try to re-connect with the ordinary Canadians he has lost.

One can almost predict Trump’s tweet.

The @realDonaldTrump: “Canada’s PM @JustinTrudeau snubs my inauguration and now wants a meeting? Get in line, Castro lover, as in the back of the line.”

Or words to that effect.

I think some of these celebs take themselves and their point of view way too seriously though. Streep is a unique actress. love some of her films. But she can keep her politics to herself. Along with all the other half baked democrats/ liberals that always seem to be appalled at anything non PC.
Trudeau is a D--k I think hes proved that beyond doubt...Allowing your own personal opinions to shape your countries policy to a major trading partner is DUMB

One must also not forget that Trump, no doubt in private, feels he is the most elitist of the elite in this world. How could he not given his ego driven reflexive nature.

Yup, pretty much.
