  • Krokodile

Just a heads up. This is a new concoction with a codeine base used as a cheap substitute for heroin. Krokodile (crocodile in English) is very bad in Russia and now ~10 cases have been reported in the United States. The high is intense but only lasts for an hour or so. It can be made in the kitchen. Perhaps the most horrible thing about Krokodile is that it creates lesions that eat the flesh away. This is known as shedding krokodile tears...

Watched a video some time ago about its impact in Russia. Horrific and a heroin death trip times ten.

    Sheer evil.

And still people intentionally use this. When you know what such drugs will do to you and you use them anyway it is nothing but a form of suicide.
Removing a single turd from the cesspool doesn't make any difference.

Heard about this last week; go here for a fairly graphic article in the Daily Mail about a couple of sisters in Illinois who were heroin addicts, and started doing Krokodile about a year ago.

WARNING: The pictures in this article are fairly graphic, not for the feint of heart!

If this stuff kills between 3 months and 2 years, then the whole userbase would be extinct in a few years.

Don't know if the drug, or the chemical contamination from the production is to blame though. After all junkies aren't the most reliable chemists in my opinion.

Desomorphine krokodil is a homemade drug, combining Codeine with lighter fluid, gasoline, paint thinner, alcohol and other ingredients.
Injecting a cocktail of lighter fluid, gasoline, paint thinner, alcohol. (and match heads, Iodine) :pari:

people make it themselves. It poses an additional threat similar to home meth labs in that people are mixing and cooking volatile chemicals in environments unsafe for that kind of work- think kitchens in poorly maintained apartments or housing developments, motel rooms, garages. We've received notices about it, but I haven't yet run into a user. Its really sad to see how low people will sink once addiction has got ahold of them. Particularly opioid addictions.

As long as they do it to themselves that is one thing. As soon as some evil SOB starts handing it out to 9 year olds it is a whole other nightmare.

A major catch is that almost universally, one way or another, they don't do it just to themselves. For example, look at the opening news article: to fight this crime problem, they are going to take away the access to pain drugs from the people who really need them (right or wrong on that issue).

Or does the production of this stuff come with similar consequences to the production of meth such as exploding kitchens, illegal toxic waste dumps, contaminated housing, or perhaps just spillover fire as SWAT raids the house of one's neighbor?

Think of all the stuff an addict might do to obtain their next fix (and if one is addicted to this stuff, they are pretty desperate) and one can probably come up with many situations where it is just not the addict affected.

Substituting is nothing new. Drinking antifreeze is still a problem among poor alcoholics. It attacks the liver. Ironically the best treatment is ethanol.

They are not going to take away the codeine. They just will need a prescription to get it as it will be no longer an off the shelf item. Many states did the same thing with cold medicine that had the ingredient that "cook's" needed to make their meth. It can be a hassle but if you really need it you just have to go to a doctor.

I do realize that addicts do not live in a vacuum. What they do does affect others in some form. To what extent is sometimes hard to gauge. However when it comes to the actual act of filling a needle with poison and injecting it in their body...that is all on the addict.

Uhm....??? Really?, no one drinks ethylene glycol, not who wants to live. I've never heard of a non-suicide non-child case. In my time in AA I learned that they may drink rubbing alchohol... But even the driest county in the nation has lots of easily access cheap do in a pinch booze- vanilla, mouthwash etc.

Bonehead, in the US codeine is already a prescription only drug. So we are looking at dirty pharmacies or its being brought in from Canada/Mexico.
