  • Boris Berezovsky found dead in his bath

Boris Berezovsky, the high-profile Russian oligarch who became a vociferous critic of the Kremlin from his new base in Britain, died today.

A close friend confirmed to The Telegraph that Mr Berezovsky had died at his home in Ascot, Berkshire.

The circumstances of the death remain unknown but the 67 year-old businessman is thought to have been found dead in his bath.

It will inevitably raise questions about nefarious activities because Mr Berezovsky had survived several assassination attempts, including a bomb that decapitated his chauffeur in 1994.

He was also a close friend of Alexander Litvinenko, the Russian dissident who was fatally poisoned with radioactive polonium-210 in London in 2006.

Another close friend in the "London Circle" of exiled but influential Russians is Akhmed Zakayev, who was also the subject of a plot to assassinate him on British soil.

Sad kinda. Politically he was very outspoken not sure why do it now when he has had less and less public exposure after all this time. Vengeance perhaps for something else who knows.

on rtvi (Russian cable/dish network channel here in states) they reported the story on the bottom of the screen and the next sentance was that he called Putin before his death and apologized for everything. Which seems highly unlikely and unrealistic but they can say anything they want now.

Yes foul play most likely but I don't understand why now after all this time. I guess they tried a few times before and at this point it might have been no longer necessary because publicity wise he wasn't as much in the press. Guess vengeance didn't let up for something wander what it was.

Well, Putins' press attaché Peskov told this to press, so it can be called an official information from Kremlin.

If it was not heart attack, my next bet is suicide. He became nobody and lost most of his assets.

Seriously? A man that made an enemy of Putin dies just out of the blue, and your first guess after natural causes is suicide? How far down the list do you go before you reach KGB/SVR assisted early departure?

                  Okay.......

The question is, what is in for SVR and/or Putin with his departure now?

Unless he learnt something new or it is a message to someone else, I can't see any gains worth the effort.

Seriously. He might have declared Putin as his enemy (this is useful to get UK political asylum ), but why would Putin bothered about it? He did nothing but interviews and PR as a victum of "Putin the Terrible".

Then Berezovsky lost his court battle with Roman Abramovich in London, he cut all contacts with press. Obviously, it was a heavy blow to him. He invested a lot in this court, exposed himself as typical rascal during the process and got nothing in return. No need for conspiracy theories.

Whatever the cause of death was, good riddance.

Its called 'making an example of somebody'. Point made.

Yes, but to send out the message there should be at least some moot links to the executors.

Officially, Russian preferred method for refugees in the UK is out of the loop.

Can't say I disagree with that. Now both our nations need to repeat ''whatever cause of death'' several hundreds times.
