I've studied the Civil War mainly from the Southern perspective. First because I'm Southern. But also because of how they accomplished so much with so little (militarily). Also, I believe that the outcome was almost pre-determined. Shelby Foote was once asked if he thought that the war was inevitable. He replied that it wasn't so much inevitable, but it was necessary.......

THen you will surely find our American Civil War (http://www.worldaffairsboard.com/american-civil-war/) forum interesting where some of our most heated historical discussion have taken place.

Wow...that blew me away. Have to think about this one. Not agreeing or disagreeing with it....but it did give me food for thought....

Wow...that blew me away. Have to think about this one. Not agreeing or disagreeing with it....but it did give me food for thought....The last thing we need around here is for Yello to get confused.

Synonyms of inevitable:

unavoidable - inescapable - ineluctable - necessary

Sweetheart, inevitable and necessary mean the same thing. ;)

YellowFever

inevitable - something that is going to happen

necessary - something that needs to happen.

Hi all. I've been following this board for a bit, and finally signed up. I'm just a fan (if that's the right word) of the military-especially the Battleships & the Navy. My dad was in the USN for a few years and is a big history guy, I guess I got it from him.

Decided to join up to get in on the discussion about the USS Iowa.

Hi all,

My first introduction to internet forums was when a friend recommended an rc helicopter forum a few years ago, after I took up the hobby. Here is a video of me flying one of my helis:

Blade 400 flight - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZFlymLjb4Q)

I have registered here under the same name as I use on a few rc forums, which are the only other forums I have joined, where I eventually became interested in discussing politics, and international politics in particular.

Rather than post in more obscure corners of the internet, today I searched google for ''biggest political forum,'' this one appeared high in the search results and looks like a friendly place. So, here I am. :)

I would also like to take this opportunity to apologise to everyone here, for having broken the rules already, by posting in a controversial discussion thread (What's wrong with Israel) before introducing myself in this thread. And in particular I'd like to apologise to the moderator who had to take the time to delete my post, for having broken this rule. Out of several thousand posts under this username on other forums, the post in question is the first one that has ever been deleted. So please be assured that I will try in earnest to stick to the rules in future.

I look forward to partaking in the discussions. :)

I am guessing by that comment that you are not a "squid"! There was a book and a movie not long back that was entitled "once I was a soldier" It had to be about a "soldier" because ...........
Once a Navy man, always a Navy man!
Plus, I must point out that it was the Navy that brought the soldier to the fight and.....it was the Navy that covered their butts as they invaded! :Dancing-Banana:

So what you are saying there is that as the soldier was taken to fight by the navy, then the navy sat around to pick up the pieces and then take them to fight some more, we should be grateful in the knowledge that our butts were covered.:biggrin:

When one considers that for the soldier, the enemy is usually ahead of them and there is one direction to shoot in, and that the Navy has to worry about the enemy coming at them from all directions as well as from under and above, then yes, a simple "thank you for covering my butt as well" would be appropriate!

Hi everyone, I'm Markus.

I am interested in chaos and order. This basically means I'm into things like stability ops, civil affairs, COIN, statebuilding... that kind of thing.

I'm also interested in everything else.

Shashank, Darth - Welcome to WAB, Wabbitville. This is an amazing conglomerate of the best and the finest military professionals.

Stay clear of OOE Sir, as he is not only amazing with his posts and would shoot you down with just his sneeze but he is a professional commanded to be respected by all. S2 Sir, he's got more on his radar than FP people. In short, this is not the usual rhetoric that goes day in and day out in Indian and other forums. Be good, stay good, and make sure your English comprehensions are upto the mark.

My apologies, it seems I jumped off the bridge before I was told to :D

My Name is Dave and I was invited to join by a friend of mine Chogy. I am a computer technology educator in Alabama and retired from the US Army in 2004. I have 5 MOSs including 19 series, 11 series, 95B, and 2 AFSCs (Security Police & Combat Comms) from the USAF after 10 years there. I am a former protection specialist for NASA and in the early 90's worked for several defense contractors including but no limited to Pratt Whitney, Raytheon, and Motorola.

I build websites as a hobby and to get a little beer money, I am an armor modeller, history buff (aren't we all), have several children, a wife, a cat that asks for mommy when I come home first, am a wargamer (my son and I make our own games) and well want to know more just ask...I guess.

Thanks!

YellowFever
24 Nov 11,, 18:26
New guys!

To be perfectly serious for a sec, what you're going to experience in this forum is something wonderful and rarely seen around the internet.

You'll see total professionals, people that have actually "been there and done that" discuss issues and world events. And I'm not just talking in military terms but also politically.

I advise you guys to read more and post less in those threads as what you might contribute to those threads are minimal and just "mess up the place" as S2 like to say. :)

Sometimes these fine gentlemen (and ladies), when bored or just in a goofy mood, will climb down and engage the rest of us mortal scum (as perfectly illustrated in the last page) in the weeds and then it's GAME ON!

So read more and engage less in the "serious" threads and if you are curious about something in that thread, ask your questions or make comments but in a respectful way and then come down to the weeds i.e. the silly threads where Benny, tankie, Doktor and I will welcome you with open arms and insult your (if you have any) intelligence. :)

Like I said before, the fun part is when these professionals make mistake and venture into the weeds (because they think they can be as goofy as us, or simply by making a wrong turn) where we inhibit and then WE CAN POUND ON THEM!!!!

Woo Hoo!!!!

That's when you see pictures of sheep, Celine Dion and Benny with a fresh hair cut.

I am new here, but I am not new to Internet forums.

I use my real name and identity as I want to be known, and it forces me to stand behind anything that I post so as not to post anything that I am not willing to stand behind.

In real life I am a 2012 candidate for the US Senate from my State of Maryland, and I have my one pet subject concerning the issue of Child Support, see my link HERE (http://votejp.webs.com/childsupportpage.htm).

So I have to wait for 25 postings before I can start a thread here, and if anyone else would start a thread about the evil Child Support then I would be happy to join into it.
