Tehran - New ballistic missiles were delivered to Iran's revolutionary guards (IRGC), Defence Minister Ahmad Vahidi said Sunday.
The new missiles, Qiam1 (Rising), were successfully tested and delivered to the IRGC's aerospace division, Vahidi told the Fars news agency.
He provided no additional details except to say that they could hit targets with high precision and were difficult to intercept.
The missiles were delivered to the guards on the anniversary of the liberation of the southern port of Khorramshahr from Iraqi forces in 1982.
Vahidi said Iran has become self-sufficient in producing both short- and medium-range missiles.
The Defence Ministry in October reportedly delivered the third generation of Fateh-110 missiles to the revolutionary guards and is supposed to test the fourth generation in the near future.
The Fateh-110 is said to be short-range, road-mobile, ballistic missile with advanced navigation and control systems.
The main concern of Western nations is the Shahab-3 ballistic missile, which has a range of up to 2,000 kilometres and could reach any part of Israel.
