View Full Version : Favourite Foreign Language song

OK folks, lets have your favourite song in a foreign language (or mostly in one anyway). Now, I realise that we have lots of clever bilingual folk on WAB. As I am both jealous & vindictive you can't choose a song in a language you understand to any great degree. Thats just no fun. And lets be honest, some songs are WAY better when you don't know what is actually being said. ;)

First up, the gorgeous Nina (actually prefer this to the English version):

jQYQTFudrqc

...the somewhat strange Rammstein (what is it with Nth Europe & industrial metal??)

fLp63WBV-Ic

...and something closer to home, the first is mostly in english, but it is such a cool song:

German, but I speak it conversationally.

I'd have to say French - I love the sound of it in my ear, softly whispered. ;)

so only languages I don't understand...does this include every song with a female singer?

UYxeWnX8CN0

not my favourite version, but it was the only pure welsh one I could find on youtube.

QEllLECo4OM

so ok the lyrics are in latin and old German but it is not like I understand anything without having the text in front of me, so i guess it still counts.

rPsL2WVhFCc

"only" a movie soundtrack, but that does not mean it is not awesome.

My French is far from being fluent, so I hope this still counts, and I simply have a weakness for songs that want to make you start a revolution.

(Actually that is one of the things that the French and German share. They love to overthrow their government just as much as we enjoy overthrowing theirs. )

These are allegedly in English, though I struggle to understand them, especially the first. I shudder to think how it sounds to anyone outside Australia. Still, gotta love the Crawl.

yauOmt9psYM

I literally had no idea that this song was called 'beautiful people' until I saw it written. Didn't even try to work out what it all meant.

And on my MP-3 player

Bigfeller dealt a killing blow with the first post in posting the one foreign language song in a language I cannot understand that I really like.

Of course the "in a language you don't understand" keeps me from flooding this thread with K-Pop and J-Pop :(

Some people may see that as a blessing.

What does this say about me that I know the lyrics to almost the entire song?

It's a damn shame, I remember the lyrics to most songs I hear more than once and I can't really determine which ones to remember and which ones to forget

It says something profoundly disturbing mate.

What becomes more & more disturbing as I age is the discovery that the memory space taken up by something like this always seems to be the same on thet I need to rememeber important stuff...like people's names.

Hummmmmm, I don't speak French.

SWSNBNs has a ton of French language songs on YouTube.

Which would be worse? Young asian girls bouncing around in skimpy clothes singing pop music? Or the Wicked witch of the North with harry legs butchering a AC/DC song?

Bigfella

I'd rather lose an arm than a leg, but I'd rather lose neither if I can avoid it.

By all means post something by the unmentionable one, abut ask yourself if it is really worth punishing yourself & the reat of us & risking the wrath of the Colonel just to get at me. Thought you Sargent types were smarter than that when it comes to Colonels (especially the grumpy sort). ;)

Bit like nuking your neighbour, sure, you punish, but is the cost really worth it?
