Berlusconi to young women: Seek rich guys like me
By VICTOR L. SIMPSON, Associated Press Writer Victor L. Simpson, Associated Press Writer Mon Sep 13, 11:42 am ET

ROME – Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi says young women should follow the money when looking for a partner, noting that women seem to like him and "I'm loaded."

Berlusconi, who was embroiled in a sex scandal last year and is known for his gaffes, also raised eyebrows with a joke about Hitler's followers urging him to return to power.

The billionaire businessman appeared at a convention Sunday of the youth wing of his People of Freedom party. When questioned by one of his Cabinet ministers — a woman — he joked about marriages of convenience, saying women were lining up for him because "I'm a nice guy" and "I'm loaded."

He also recalled a much-criticized TV interview he once gave, when "I said to a girl to look for a wealthy boyfriend. This suggestion is not unrealistic."

He also claimed women favor older men, thinking that "he's old. He dies and I inherit."

The 73-year-old Berlusconi was engulfed in a sex scandal last year centering on his purported dalliances with young women, including an escort. Berlusconi's wife Veronica Lario said last year she was seeking a divorce. They are now separated.

The media baron has said he is "no saint" but denied ever paying for sex.

In Italy, a divorce can only be sought after three years of separation. Media reports this summer suggested that Berlusconi's wife has rejected his early proposals for a financial settlement.

Berlusconi often gets criticized for his earthy sense of humor, and this time an opposition political demanded he apologize to Italy's Jewish community for his Hitler joke.

Before telling it, he said "I already know I am going to be criticized."

Berlusconi, who claims prosecutors have led corruption investigations against him because they are left-wing, also appeared to be poking fun at himself when commenting on the loss of his AC Milan soccer team on Saturday. He contended the referee robbed the team of three goals and that Milan often gets "leftist referees."

A politician that calls a spade a spade. Why get on his case? There are plenty of gold diggers out there. Matter of fact, I know a couple. What's the problem, that he used a public forum to say that he's single, good looking and loaded? If that were the case, I say we hang every single lawyer we can find

He's always been a sexist pig, and an embarrasment to his country, so this is par for the course. He's also completely corrupt and believes in gagging prosecutors, who he claims are 'left-wing', ie doing their job and objecting to his corruption. His own deputy Gianfranco Fini recently annouced he's had enough and disengaged from Planet Chauvisconi, now if only the rest of his country would do the same.

Women of Italy, you know he's a sleazebag, a sexist and a cretin, vote as a bloc and he's gone.

Yes exactly! When is the next election? I’m not really familiar with the political scene in Italy these days, but why has the opposition not been able to oust Berlusconi?

              Thanks,

Italian seaside town planning miniskirt ban
Woman in a miniskirt The dress code would ban everything from miniskirts to low-cut jeans

A seaside city in Italy is planning to ban miniskirts and other revealing clothing to improve what the mayor calls standards of public decency.

Castellammare di Stabia is trying to be the latest location in Italy to make use of new powers to crack down on what is deemed to be anti-social behaviour.

Mayor Luigi Bobbio said the regulations would help "restore urban decorum and facilitate better civil co-existence".

Offenders would face fines of between 25 ($35) and 500 euros ($696).
                'Right decision'

"Nothing too revealing" is the new policy Mayor Bobbio wants to enforce, says the BBC's Duncan Kennedy in Rome.

That means a tough new dress code which would effectively outlaw everything from miniskirts to low-cut jeans when people walk around Castellammare di Stabia, our correspondent adds.

Mr Bobbio, from the centre-right People of Freedom party, says he wants to target people who are "rowdy, unruly or simply badly behaved".

There will also be a ban on sunbathing, playing football in public places, and blasphemy, if the proposals are approved at a council meeting on Monday.

"I think it's the right decision," a local parish priest, Don Paulo Cecere, told the Cronache di Napoli newspaper. "It's also a way of combating the rise in sexual harassment."

Castellammare di Stabia is latest city to make use of the extra powers handed down by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's government to mayors, in the effort to fight crime and confront anti social behaviour.

In other places they have banned sandcastles, kissing in cars, feeding stray cats, wooden clogs and the use of lawn mowers at weekends.

Berlusconi changed the voting system in such a way that it vastly favours his coalition. Probably one of the most complicated in Europe too. Berlusconi also allied with the ultra-right (e.g. Alessandra Mussolini), which gives his coalition a broader base, while the left and center is "a bit" more splintered.

Next election is whenever the current government folds, as usual in Italy. The only one who ever managed a full 4-year term since WW2 was Berlusconi himself once, 2001 to 2005 (seriously). His next government folded within 12 months then though.

Not having a stable government is probably an advantage, governments that get around to doing anything are more likely than not to just f*ck things up.
