Iran has equipped its Air Force with 10 new domestically-manufactured helicopters in line with a plan to boost its defensive capabilities.

Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said on Saturday that the Iranian Armed Forces had received 10 units of homemade helicopters dubbed Toufan (storm).

Vahidi said that the helicopter is equipped with “state-of-the-art weapons systems including anti-tank missiles, rocket-launchers and 20mm canons,” adding that the helicopters can be used in naval and ground operations.

The Iranian defense minister also inaugurated the Helicopter 214 composite rotor blades production line. According to Vahidi, Iran is the second country to produce the equipment.

Vahidi described the defense achievements as another giant leap towards the country's self-sufficiency.

Uhm, looks like a Panha 2091 upgrade renamed. Cockpit pictures show a lack of modern features like MFD's or thermal imagers.

No offense, but how many countries can build light jets, attack helos, put small satellites in to orbit etc exist in the Muslim world? Pakistan is closest, but requires huge amounts of foreign aid that Iran is denied. Iran's stuff isn't state of the art, but considering their situation they come a long long way since 1979. They are the modern Meji.

            troung Rebuilds.
Probably new builds, they've mastered jet/turbine technology of that generation. Its more modern engines that give them issues.

              Z,

The idea of assigning attack choppers to the Air Force seems to be odd.

That's what the RAAF effectively had up until the late 80's. Perhaps internal politics?

The birdbrains wanted to keep the money instead of giving it to the bellycrawlers. Same with the CF here. The birdbrains own the rotorheads even though they're assigned to bellycrawler brigades.

Just a small mistake on reporter's part. Cobras are assigned to IRIAA not IRIAF.
