I was just watching the video clip of two women in a net surrounded boxing ring pounding each other like drunk school boys.
The MMA bout between Gina Carano and Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos is supposedly the breakthrough battle that will make female fighting mainstream.
Sorry about that. They did not employ the fine art of Boxing (hit only above the trunks) or ancient Greco/Roman wrestling (holds above waistline only) or Farmer Burns' Catch-as-catch-can (allowing grapple holds on legs as well as upper body).
What these fights look like are simply barroom brawls. (The professional wrestler shows are merely intense stunt shows). When the women were down on the deck with the one on top (pounding the one on the bottom) the speed and impact of the gloved fists merely looked pats rather than hits. Some of the grappling looked more like two Lesbians trying to get into a better position for climax.
This type of fighting (male or female) cannot be called a sport as there is no sportsmanship in it. Seeing two reasonably attractive women fighting viciously (supposedly) only appeals to SM men and women viewers to give them a reason to --- umm --- adjust something in their crotch.
My grandfather was a well known barroom brawler and a tough switchmen able to throw bums off the train. He owed that to being the Iowa State Lightweight wrestling champ circa 1910. But this exhibition would turn him over in his grave.
