The birth of Zoorkhaneh (Iranian traditional gymnasium) dates back to the old times when the land of Persia was invaded by Mongolians & Iranian patriot guys used to gather together shaping underground groups in order to fight against occupiers. According to Yasa (The Mongolian law) defeated nations were not allowed to practice any martial exercise & Iranian men needed to be prepared to defend their country; so they began to exercise secretly in abandoned underground places far from cities. For such a purpose, these guys used tools which were made in the shape of their weapons. These fighters named their place Zoorkhaneh which means a place in which men swear to be loyal to their country by tasting salty water called Zoor water. Zoorkhaneh still exists today & there are still people who exercise with sport tools which are exactly made in the shape of ancient weapons such as bow, sword, mace & shield.
