Barry Bonds just broke Hank Aaron's record. Yay?

  • #2
Dunno. Who are they? And is Hank Aaron pissed about it?

There's a guy in jail for refusing to testify in the Bonds steroid probe. If it comes out that he used them, I don't think he ought to be recognized as the record holder. Ben Johnson for example wasn't given the world record for his time in the 100m dash.

          I'm in 100% agreement here.

Steroids or not, Barry Bonds is a hell of a baseball player. I have no doubt he could hit 500 HR easy even before he "bulked up."

                This Sucks

Juiced players and juiced baseballs. Give me Aaron going against the likes of Koufax, Drysdale, Marichal, Gibson, Seaver, Ryan, Maloney, Bunning, Jenkins, Osteen, Sutton, Koosman, etc., etc. The quickest bat in baseball history.

That's back when "juice" either meant tobacco or liquor and a 30 homer season meant something.

                  Guys,

                  1. Bonds is still a good baseball player, albeit a dickheaded player too. You could take all the steroids in the world and not hit one MLB homerun, it takes more than power.

                  2. Chill. A-rod's on pace to hit at least 1000 homeruns, so no worries :)

Agreed. Bonds changes the strike zone like Shaq changes the paint. (And we all know Shaq takes a draw of Campbells chunky chicken soup in the ass before every game).

The comparison ends where Barry uses armor in a position that is supposed to be much more one of defense. Also, Hank played most of his career when pitchers threw from a 10-20 inch height advantage. Today, pitching rubbers are to be no higher than 10 inches. I'd like to see Barry hog the plate in 1968 or earlier and not get what he deserves for it. I mean,, the guy either walks, hits, or strikes out. The juice helps line drives break through the infield, if he doesn't hit it out, and the plate-hogging forces the pitcher to hack-a-shaq, or walk him and hope he can't score.

That's a very valid point. Pitcher's mound was much higher back then. Batters didn't dare to crowd the plate either. If they did, they get knocked down. That's not how baseball is played today. The "brush back" pitch is nearly unheard of now.

Oh dear! To think this game developed from the friendly and traditional sport of 'Rounders'. Must be big money and bigger egos involved.

I can imagine a hundred people jumping and fighting for it. must've been chaotic.

Oh it was. Did you see the video shot by Fox news on the bleachers? It was a mad scramble for the ball. It rolled on the ground and was finally picked up by an Australian tourist. He was scheduled to go back home the next day so he figured he'd catch a game before he left. The security escorted him out of the park right after he got the ball.

Not in my book. Ruth and Aaron didn't need performance enhancing drugs.

In fact Babe Ruth's idea of performance enhancing was lots of beer and fat cigars.
