Who would people rate as the most efficient and lethal of the Special Forces and your reasons why. This should create a bit of discussion amongst the crowds. My choice goes to 22 SAS!:)

Pretty damn sure this has been done before...
Anyway I'd pick the CIA's NCS, I know they're not technically Military but rather ParaMil, however they are made up of ex-SF from across the Army/Navy/Air Force board, and they do have a LOT of experience between them.
As for their operational effectiveness... who knows? But they would surely have the best quality of personnel.

The trouble with all this is, different fields for different people.

CIA = Very covert. Not exclusively military targets. And not from what I have read, combat. Don't these boys usually get in there and get for example 'Afgan A' to beat the **** outa 'Afgan B'

22 SAS = 'Conventional' (no other word works) special ops. Intel gathering, strike missions, hostage rescue.

Its horses for courses.

I would vote SAS as I think they are the best in what they do. They have more experience than any other special ops outfit. But then you consider most of these groups do exchanges, and pretty much work the same way its kind of hard to pick a winner.

In so far as what they HAVE done, and the effects on the war. I would go for the SAS.

At least I tried to spice it up by giving a left-field response. If I hadn't interjected, this would rapidly descend into a "SAS vs Deltas vs SEALS vs AusSAS vs NZSAS vs Spetnaz" flame war.
And now that I've said this, it probably will.

Totally disagree, the original question also asks why? As for 22 SAS, Aus SAS and NZ SAS, they are of the same school, different countries thats all. SEALS are on par with the SBS.

Probably the road to victory lays in number of īSī-s in units designation ....

Arnt Spetnaz more like commandos than special forces? Just better trained and equiped infantry. Didnt think they did behind the lines or overly covert work.

Spetsnaz, as the name itself implies as a gereral term for special forces in mother russia.
it branches into differing groups..... special purpose units, with counter-terrorist, anti sabotage, policing, Mniistry of Internal affairs these are controlled by the FSB.
Then you have the army Special Forces spetsnaz controlled by the military intillegence.

Military/Naval spetsnaz are a proper Special Forces unit, they deal with insurgency, covert ops, deep recce, strategic demolitions, and even assasination [put to good use in afghanistan].

I am partial to SFOD-D, myself. SAS troopers rotate into Counter-Revolutionary Unit. Delta does it everyday.

I think its the SAS;s range of skills that is their asset

There is a reason for why this is, and that is that all SAS personael become CT qualfied they are rotated every 6 months, with constant and updated training. SAS are not only designated CTW, they are also used for other purposes. The rotation allows them to excell in other areas.
Even though it has slightly changed since the last couple of years, as there are SAS teams only specialising in CTW.

The SAS pratically designed and worte the rule book regarding CR/CTW.Thats why they are known in the buisness as the best in CT.

They may not have the bestest 'training facility' at Bragg (very guci indeed) like the delta's do, or only do six months ctw, they are still considered better, through operational means.

Yes, but it takes intense training to maintain CT levels of marksmanship and skills.

That said, I am partial to SPOD-D. =P

There is more to CTW then marksmanship.
SAS marksmanship is never let down, practiced every day, 365 days a year. unless otherwise.

I vote for Bundes GrenSchutz Group 9. They win all the competitions ever held with SAS, Delta, Spetznats, the Elizabeth New Jersey SWAT, the Pinkerton special team from Fresno....
