Jeb Stuart had a pair of them on him when he was killed at the Battle of Yellow Tavern in 1864. Custer had a pair of British Bulldog revolvers and a Remington hunting rifle when he made his last stand on a hill above the Little Big Horn river on June 25th 1876, his men had Colt Single Action Army revolvers (standard issue pistol in US military at the time) and 1873 Sharps carbines (carried by cavalry), US Army infantry at the time still carried the ACW era Springfield rifle with some modifications.

i also found a revolver which fired a single shotgun shell from a chamber under the barrell and parallel with the cylinder.

holy recoil!
