Sorry Glyn, it appeared in an email as part of a joke some time ago, I have no idea where it was

A lot of steel here at 118 tons apiece. Regunning of USS Missouri in Norfolk back in the 50's.

He flanked him! That's why he won!

The top photo is of the Paravane Eye on the Forefoot Skeg of the USS New Jersey. The eye led to a chain pipe up through the forepeak tank to tow anti-mine paravanes.

But we had a lot of corrosion and erosion problems with that cast eye and the forepeak tank was always flooded.

The bottom photo is after the eye and chain piping was removed and the bow plated over nice and smooth.

Yeah, yeah. That's me there.

Our famous "Herman the German" crane ("Titan II") working on the USS Missouri at Long Beach Naval Shipyard. In my younger and more reckless years, I climbed all the way to the top at the aircraft warning light.

Rusty,
That's a great shot of P.V. Whatever happened to that crane?

The crane was sent to Panama. It's back in service now though they removed the 10-ton centerline jib boom.

Being a Naval Architect, people often have asked me why I wanted to be a tank driver when I entered the military. Hopefully the attached news clippings will be clear enough to give you an idea.

Like the one of the tanks range firing in the snow Firral - looks like Hohne in January of which I have many nightmares!!!

You remind me a joke: to you show a clean paper leaf and ask that there is represented? You think there anything are not present?
No, you are not right, there are represented: a polar bear on a white ice floe in a snow blizzard.

It is a destroyed Merkava tank by Hezb'Allah. I will post some photos soon guys. I have tons of military photos :)

??You don't believe it's a Merkava??

The turret looks right in proportion and position to be a Merkava. Can't see the back doors though.

As for destruction, I doubt that. It would have taken a minimum 500 lb bomb underneath to push it over the escarpment. Then that would have blown off the rear track wheels.

Obviously the gun barrel has to be replaced as it is bent at the bore evacuator. Perhaps the whole gun cradle assembly. The front side skirt needs a little straightening by a sledge hammer mechanic. The driver is probably still scheduled for inquiry after the stitches are removed from his head.

But I wouldn't call it destroyed. I've seen worse than that on M-48's and had them back in service in 3 days max (but that was at Fort Irwin that has a full tank repair facility).

I suppose Hizbu'llah also claims this other Merkava...

Training mishaps in both cases.

Thanks for reminding me. I have an 8mm film I took of Camp Roberts one year and it included the recovery we made of an M-41 tank out of the Salinas River.

I need to get that film transfered to DVD (if I can afford it).

On how many I remember it was in the end of April.

It is a little not in a theme. I live in 7 kilometers from the sea Barentseva, and here this photo has been made on May, 14th ;) :

??You don't believe it's a Merkava??

Merkava yes. Destroyed by Hezbollah, not a chance.

As somebody already said: Training accidents.

Besides, other than a knee-jerk "Oh boy oh boy oh boy!!! A destroyed Israeli tank, why gee whiz, it just MUST have been the brave and stalwart freedom fighters of Hezbollah that smote it" reaction, do you have any proof that the tank in that picture was destroyed by Hezbollah?

 Makes me laugh how minds work lol so how was it destroyed by hezzy?............sneak up behind it and push it over lol..........obviously it was a simple training incident

ESSM shot on the USS Momsen DDG 92, you can see it starting to tip over using the thrust vectoring it has to have when fired from a VLS launcher.
