  • UN to "Moniter" US Elections

WASHINGTON (CNN)—A team of international observers will monitor the presidential election in November, according to the U.S. State Department.
The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe was invited to monitor the election by the State Department. The observers will come from the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.
It will be the first time such a team has been present for a U.S. presidential election.
“The U.S. is obliged to invite us, as all OSCE countries should,” spokeswoman Urdur Gunnarsdottir said. “It’s not legally binding, but it’s a political commitment. They signed a document 10 years ago to ask OSCE to observe elections.”
Thirteen Democratic members of the House of Representatives, raising the specter of possible civil rights violations that they said took place in Florida and elsewhere in the 2000 election, wrote to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan in July, asking him to send observers.

The UN is a vile instutition and as such MUST be destroyed. They have done nothing good ever! Even their aide to the third world is a moral crime, and has done more harm then good.

    They're not from the UN.

They are from some Euro organization. I don't like it either.

It was explained to me this way. For these watchdogs to find out what is wrong, they have to find out what is right.

I agree completely with this Administration’s goal of a regime change in Iraq-John Kerry
even if that enforcement is mostly at the hands of the United States, a right we retain even if the Security Council fails to act-John Kerry
He may even miscalculate and slide these weapons off to terrorist groups to invite them to be a surrogate to use them against the United States. It’s the miscalculation that poses the greatest threat-John Kerry

People who should have been allowed to vote were not allowed to. I'm not claiming it was some sort of conspiracy, but it did happen. The electoral college isn't a very logical system anyway, but that's a whole different issue.

Who, and who says? Remember, we're talking civil rights here.

Voting is not a right. It's a privlage granted by Constitutional Law in an effort to check the Governments power.

That sounds very, very scary, sounds like they are here to give a boost to Kerry. I bet a few days after the election, regardless of if Bush wins or not they will claim he rigged elections and tried to get more votes. The 2000 stuff all over.

This is more liable to hurt the dems than the pubs.

The Dems have a long record of voter fraud. Kennedy was elected president by dead people in Chicago, for instance.

I like the electoral college just fine. Anyone who thinks that they've got it right and that the founding fathers had it wrong needs a big mouthful of humility.

Ok. I won't comment on the morality question etc.

Our elections are monitored by European and US agencies. Do we care? NO. If it is fair, who cares who comes and sees?

It is better to have them than face a whole barrage of crap that the 'darkies' are immature for democracy.

We are the FIRST Democracy to have electronic voting so that the controversy of the Florida hooh hah is avoided.

And guess what? We are a third world impoverished, starving lot!

                          Funny, what?

I don't have a problem with it in theory, but with the state of world affairs, I'm not sure I should trust their motivations.

Worst part is, here they made it worse, there is no way to "recount" with our machines. No paper trail. I liked punch cards myself, if a person is too stupid to poke a hole, they probably shouldn't be voting anyway. ;)

We don't need corrupt socialist cluster fucks of a country telling us how to run an election.
