Die Welt interviewed Middle-East specialist Bernard Lewis (http://www.princeton.edu/~nes/profiles/Lewis.htm) from the Princeton University (http://www.princeton.edu).

Unfortunately, for most of you, it's in German. But some on-line translation services, like Babelfish, might do the trick.

It's no news to me actually, I see it around me every day, but I still find it shocking how people are letting all of this simply happen. It's great to hear it from other people, from America, aswell.

Its the same here, but with the Hispanics. The US Census Bureau has estimated that unless we were to restrict immigration to the US from Hispanic countries that half the US population will be Hispanic by 2020. Its not that far fetched to me. We already have what, like 40 million Hispanics here out of 290 million. Our population will more then double to 500 million by 2050. Not a pretty future in sight :frown:

Isn't America a country that knows no colour or bias?
A country for those who are fair? (Not in skin colour)
I'm not American myself, but I don't think you guys should be looking at it from a racial point of view.

I've also heard that one about America being predominatly Muslim in the future.
I thought it would be interesting to mention that I read an article in a newspaper once that said that 'Malaysia' a country with a high muslim population could be predominantly Christian by the turn of the century.

Well, you know what they say, "change is inevitable, except from a vending machine." :)

Well Malaysia being predominantly Christian by the turn of the century doesn't really bother me. Apart from the fact that I won't believe to see it, Christianity hasn't risen any major political and wordly problems lately and I hope it stays that way.

I dont think that Malaysia will be predominantly christian. Af far as I know most of the converts have been form the chinese community, not the malays and indians.

No, Europe will not by majority Muslim by the end of the century.

Fertility rates in the Muslim world are rapidly declining. What took hundreds of years to happen in Europe is taking a few decades in Muslim countries. There are already four Muslim countries with fertility rates below the replacement level, Algeria, Iran, Albania, and Turkey.

Given demographic trends, I predict Jordan will join them by 2010, and Indonesia, the UAE, Morocco, Libya by 2015, Egypt and Syria by 2020, and most of the rest by 2030.

The fertility rates of first-generation Muslim immigrants to Europe have been close to those in their home countries on average in the time they immigrated, today the fertility rate among new Muslim immigrants is alot lower than previous immigrants. Also, their children, second-generation, their fertility rate is close to that in their host country.
