  • New British and French Carriers not as large as promised.

Damn, the penny-pinchers have struck again at the RN and the French Navy... :)

First is the latest design for the CVF, the second pic is the PA2 (the French equivalent). Actually very interesting models of the new carriers...

I see F-35 models on the RN ship. Are those Eurofighters on the French ship?

      They look like Rafales.

They would be Rafale N's - the French pulled out of the EF2000 partly to develope a naval variant which the other partners werent interested in at the time. They are currently beginning to operate from the Charles de Gaulle, the maintence nightmare of a carrier that led to the Frogs joining this project.

One of the other planes is what appears to be a Hawkeye - do the French operate them currently? (if anyone knows).

The F35's would be the STOVL F35's - if they dont get cancelled.

lol - that was a joke re the models...

The tonnage estimates vary wildly at the moment - with between 65000 and 75000 (the larger figure is quoted for the French carrier).

We will have to wait n see.

Yes, the French do currently operate Hawkeye off CdeG (and previously of Clemenceau/Foch). They actually had to add 5m to the deck after CdeG was built to let them operate it safely.
The two carrier designs (CVF and PA2) are currently getting more and more in common - that's good news for the RN, as the chances being made are generally to make CVF bigger and more capable :)
