  • war in the horn of africa (ethiopia vs sudan)

say a border conflict leads to full blown war between sudan and eithiopia (this scenario isnt too far from the truth) whoever wins this war would become the major power player in the horn of africa, i think ethiopia, with its better airforce and more disciplined troops would carry the day.

however id like to get you guys veiwpoint on this

I agree, but Sudan is Muslim and volunteers from all over the Muslim world could come to their aid as in Afghanistan and Iraq.

      well

ethiopian counterinsurgency forces are pretty good, probably the best outside of south africa and egypt. routing out muslim foreign / geurilla fighters probably wouldent be too hard forthese guys, since they did basically the same thing in eretriea for most of the 90's

well then again, it probably would turn into a long drawn out conflict, but i think the ethiopians would still prevail.

So, what else is new? They've been fighting each other and btw themselves for over 200 years. We were just in there to end that war btw the Ethiopians and the Eritreans. And now, they're sharping their knives again. Seal the borders and give everybody an AK47 and give the last guy standing a cigar before dragging him before the Hague for Crimes Against Humanity.

            well

ethiopia could be a major power in africa if they could further dovelop their economy.

Okay, a bunch of africans have decided to fight each other. Whats new? There are dozens of conflicts going on in Africa.

Btw, ethiopia have a pretty big muslim population, and Sudan has a christian / animist population.

The Sudan is fighting an unwinnable war in the south with the black Christians and Animist forces. The EtAF is battle hardened in actual combat over the 1990s which included them downing 4 MiG-29As in close combat with their Su-27S/UB Flankers. The ETAF has 8 Su-27S/UB, 20 MiG-23BNs, 20 MiG-21MFs and a dozen Su-25s along with helicopters (Mi-24/35, Mi-8/17, B-212) and has used them in live combat while facing enemy aerial opposition. Ethiopia also has a large and well-equipped army, which makes use of combined arms tactics. They have a rather large (for black Africa) tank force of T-72s, T-62s, T-55s, BMPs and BTRs and has made use of armor in wartime since the 1960s. On the other had the SuAF bombs refugee camps with passenger planes that roll bombs out the doors on unarmed civilians. Not really a fair fight.
