I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that the French invented it.

The US is isolated geographically, there is very little pressure to conform to the metric system.

That's a rather simplistic reason and quite illogical too. After all, you are proposing that a whole county of people hasn't changed the way they measure things based on their dislike of a country. I fail to see what those two things have to do with one another. A far more likely reason is simple momentum.

But tell me please why not change slowly to metric ,it is so much easier to use .That thing about France was just my conspiracy theory.Actually French are so hated by the masses (i dont know why) that metric system has no chance in USA.

I don't think the common person in ANY country knows that the metric system was invented by the French. Nobody thinks of it as a FRENCH thing.

Besides, with all the anti-Americanism in the world today, I don't see people abandoning light bulbs, airplanes, computers, the internet, soda pop, or plastic.

The US *is* slowly changing toward the metric system. Americans are already familiar with the metric measurement for liquid, the liter. Most Americans also know that a meter is roughly the same as a yard, and a kilogram is slightly more than two pounds.

It would be more simple than most people think to switch over to the metric system anyways.

We could retain all the old names for measurements by changing them ever so slightly.

A metric gallon would be the equivalent of 4 liters. A quarter gallon, or a quart, would then be the exact same thing as a liter. A pint would be a half-liter (or half-quart), and a cup a quarter-liter (or quarter-quart).

20 oz. pop bottle could be replaced with the half-liter bottle, and the can could be a third of a liter.

Instead of weighing 454 grams, a pound could be 500 grams, or half a kilogram.

It is easier to use if you have been using it all your life, but I don't think that it so much better then the English system that it is worth the trouble of change to metric.

You seem rather fond of such theories. What you fail to understand is that it is incumbent on you to prove them not on others to disprove them.

The French are disliked in the US because they have chosen to stab us in the back after we (and others) saved there asses on several actions. No one is expecting the French socialists to support our efforts in the War on Terrorism, however, they should keep their mouths shut in matters that do not concern them.

Nobody stabbed US in the back ,they were just opposed to the attack on defensless country, hundreds of milions of people around the world were of the same view.Maybe because of all the devastating wars in Europe French ,Germans are more carefull about sending soldiers to war.And what is wrong with socialism/capitalism country like France and most of Europe, standard of live is higher than in USA?P.S.How many times did US saved France's ass??And do you know that France(and others) saved US ass during war of independence without French support there would not be any USA. :)

Saddam was defenseless? Try telling that to the people he gas, tortured and murdered.

Past hardships are not an excuse for ignoring the evils of today.

The standard of living in the US is ranked 6th in the world according to the UN quality of life survey. France is ranked 17th. Germany is ranked 18th. So, the US has a better standard of living then the socialist French and Germans even though we have a much larger population.

                    BTW,
                    Cuba 52
                    Vietnam 109
                    China 104
                    Laos 135
North Korea Not listed hmm…I wonder why?

Communism really does have an amazing record.

P.S.How many times did US saved France's ass??
                    Twice: WW1, WW2

And do you know that France(and others) saved US ass during war of independence without French support there would not be any USA.
Again false. America would have won independence from England eventually. This is hardly comparable to WW1 and WW2. English rule of America while annoying was not a kin to German rule in France. It is clear that we have saved the French from far worse then they have "saved" us.

Plus the fact the french only helped out to further their own interests by undermining their arch rival Britain.

Or we could set up a whole new standard, that'd replace the imperial and metric systems worldwide. Currently, with both systems being in use, it automatically increases the risk for mistakes when converting values which could in some cases even cost the lives of human beings.

I don't see it that way. France and Russia, as well as others through the UN, apparently have been smuggling weapons, money and intelligence to the Iraqis while telling the US they are on our side. Unless you think the Iraqis were manufacturing French and Russian weapons.

BTW, I don't hate France or Russia, I just don't like them.

Russian weapons are a very widespread throughout the world and they are easily available. Additionaly many of them are liscence manufactured in other countries or just plainly coppied and manufactured under a different name (CHinese are a perfect example).
Iraq could have purchased its weapons openly from RUssia either before the war or purchased them indirectly through some third country later.

Oh and I completely disagree that Emperial system is just as easy to use as metric, that could only come from a person who grew up using the inches. I did some construction here in US and it is plainly horrible to work with feet and inches, especially when you get down to measurements less than and inch. I know that proffessionals can do that easily half awake, but in comparisson even a 5 year old kid could do that if it was in metric. Metric system can be compared to modern arabic counting system that we use every day (radix 10) and the emperial to that of roman numerals which underdeveloped and overly complicated.

If they sold them before the war they were breaking the sections, and what is Germany and Frances excuse?

Exactly my point. It is easier for English measurements are easier then metric for those who have grown up using them.
