oops thats a wrong article hers the one...

Hundreds of foreign students took to the centre of St Petersburg to demand a full investigation into the murder of an Indian medical student that seemed to be racially motivated.

Brutally murdered

27-year-old final-year student, named Nitesh Kumar Singh, was stabbed outside a student hostel late on Sunday night. Singh was admitted to a hospital, but succumbed to the injuries later.

India's Consul-General Jordana Pavel said Singh died of seven wounds on the spine. She would not speculate on the reasons for the attack.

‘We want justice’

Holding up pictures of the Singh, the students shouted slogans like 'we want for justice' as they stood outside the prosecutors’ office. Deputy city prosecutor Andrei Lavrynko has vowed to investigate the case and to look at various versions of what happened.

Sunday's attack took place after members of a nationalist organisation called 'the movement against illegal immigration' staged a rally in the centre of St Petersburg.

History of racial attacks

Russia has been hit by a wave of race-related attacks by far-right militants on dark-skinned people and foreign students say such incidents are particularly on the rise in Russia's second city.

In February 2004, a nine-year-old girl from Tajikistan died from multiple stab wounds after a gang attacked her and members of her family on a St Petersburg street.

A year ago, a Congolese student was beaten badly and later died from his injuries. Last month, a bomb exploded at a multi-ethnic market in Moscow killing 10 people in an attack that prosecutors said appeared to be racially-motivated.

President Vladimir Putin, himself from St Petersburg, has ordered police to crack down on the problem.

Never mind guys .. i realised this thing happens everywhere India being one of the BIGGEST racist country.

a qoute from a poster in keypublishing forum tht opened my eyes.. :)

Racism exists in all countries where there are "multicultural" areas. And it is not just carried out against blacks and Asians either. In Britain the media will often purposely ignore attacks on whites which are carried out by non whites. Contrast this with attacks on non whites by whites.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4022261.stm Kriss Donald was murdered by two Asians in Glasgow but the BBC declined to comment on the racist nature of the attack.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/3405797.stm Ashley Hedger - yet again the BBC refuse to acknowledge racism against whites.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/4733097.stm
Another racist attack on a white person.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/...ter/3254492.stm Gavin Hopley's racially-motivated murder received very little coverage.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/4460778.stm The racist murder of Christopher Yates.

How many people reading this are familiar with those names? And how many more are familiar with the names of Steven Lawrence and Anthony Walker, whose equally-brutal murders had unending media coverage?

Please do not imply that all racist attacks are carried out by whites on non-whites because it simply is not true.

Indian Student Stabbed to Death
Combined Reports

A group of attackers stabbed an Indian medical student to death in St. Petersburg, the city prosecutor's office said Monday.

It was the fourth apparently racist murder this year in St. Petersburg, and it occurred in the same place where another foreign student survived an attack five months earlier, on Adolf Hilter's birthday, said Nassor Ali, spokesman for the African Unity group, which represents foreign students in the city.

The sixth-year student from the Mechnikov Medical Academy died Sunday night after he was stabbed seven times in the chest, said Yelena Ordynskaya, spokeswoman for the St. Petersburg Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors are investigating the case as a murder motivated by hooliganism, not racism, Interfax reported.

Nitesh Kumar Singh, 27, was attacked at about 9:30 p.m. as he was approaching the entrance to his dormitory at 14 Kirillovskaya Ulitsa in central St. Petersburg, Ali said.

Singh managed to enter the building and call for help before he died. He said he had been attacked by five to eight people, some wearing dark glasses and masks, Ali said.

"We are afraid the murder was committed on the grounds of ethnic hatred. There have been similar attacks near that dormitory before, but never with such tragic consequences," Ali said, adding that Singh had been alone.

A St. Petersburg police official said a surveillance camera installed at a nearby office building had captured images of several young men believed to have participated in the attack, Interfax reported. The images, however, were not distinct because it was already dark when the men passed by, the official said.

The Indian Embassy said it would not make any statement until it received a full report from investigators, RIA-Novosti reported.

Mechnikov Medical Academy canceled classes for foreign students Monday to mourn Singh, the Regnum news agency reported.

Also Sunday, a Sudanese student received a head injury in a separate attack in St. Petersburg. He was also robbed

St. Petersburg Deputy Prosecutor Andrei Lavrenko promised a rally of about 150 foreign students Monday that the killing would be solved soon. "We have gathered ample information, taken a number of investigative steps, and we will keep you informed about the course of the investigation," Lavrenko said, RIA-Novosti reported. "We will do everything to solve this crime."

Four dark-skinned foreigners have been killed and dozens of others attacked in St. Petersburg this year, Ali said. In July, an Uzbek man was fatally stabbed in what appeared to be a hate crime. An African student was shot dead in April, in the first killing to involve a gun. Another African student was killed in February.

Police arrested eight young men in May and accused them of belonging to a nationalist group that carried out racially motivated attacks, including the shooting death and the stabbing death of a 9-year-old Tajik girl in 2005.

Attacks on dark-skinned people escalate every fall with the beginning of the school year, according to the Sova think tank, which tracks violent xenophobia. "There is nothing unexpected in this. The surge in racially motived attacks in Russia always occurs in September," Sova deputy head Galina Kozhevnikova said, Interfax reported.

Russia has seen a series of attacks foreign students in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Voronezh and other cities in the past two years.

Tensions also are high after clashes and riots targeting Chechens in the town of Kondopoga, in the republic of Karelia, followed the killing of two people earlier this month.

The Prosecutor General's Office, meanwhile, said Monday that it had created a new department to enforce laws against hate crimes.

Federal prosecutors plan to conduct an inspection of how federal, regional and local authorities enforce laws on race- and religion-motivated crimes, the office said in a statement on its web site.
