  • Media Bias

I've been looking at some online articles and came across so many biased articles, including the current Israeli conflict.

In your opinion, what is the least biased media?

    Pravda.

You just have to be able to interpret it correctly.

There is no unbiased media. Everyone has an agenda. Read, listen, and watch as much as you can, then come to your own conclusions.

Take the news without the added spice....

And when a truly huge event happens, such as 9/11 or Katrina, wait about a week or two if you want accurate information. They're just reporting whatever they think is happening and sensationalizing it.

There is no unbiased media. As somebody said, everything is slanted.

The news media is a business. First and foremost.

The purpose of any business is to make money. The media makes money by selling advertising. Advertisers want to advertise using the medium that gets the most ratings.

The higher the ratings, the more adverts will pay for advert space.

So how do you increase your ratings? Cater to a certain demographic

            Bingo.

            Instant Bias.

He was an utterly incapable, unadapted, irresponsible, psychopathic personality, full of empty, infantile fantasies, but cursed with the keen intuition of a rat or a guttersnipe. He represented the shadow, the inferior part of everybody’s personality, in an overwhelming degree, and this was another reason why they fell for him.”

The problem with that is that anybody, informed or uninformed, can add information. That is, the information may be biased or just plain incorrect, and must be treated as such.

                  Life is biased.

                  Let alone the media!

Well there is bias in ALL media.Including the so called free media called independent media.based on my experience I'd say left wing media is a lot more unreliable(POGO,watchdogs, union of concerned scientists etc)(half of the time they don't even know the issue properly).Like tronic said take the media without all the spices.;)

There will always be bias in the ways one comes to detect bias, and even then, bias in the accusations of those who claim the bias of another in regards to said bias. And so on, in ever decreasing degrees of sanity.

If you are agreeing with something a media outlet is telling you, and nothing makes you uncomfortable, you cannot trust it. They are pandering to you.
If you are disagreeing with something a media outlet is telling you, and everything makes you uncomfortable, you cannot trust it. They are pandering to your enemies.

The world is all about perceptions. Look at what they are telling you. Question what they are not telling you. Look at their past history. Fox news, when reporting on... anything, exudes the slime of GOP talking points. Take that in your stride, it doesn't mean that it is an unworthy source of "news", just of facts. Knowledge is power. You can elucidate the truth enough if you know what you are dealing with.
