  • Kj-2000 Modified Plaaf Il-76 Awacs Plane Crashes

A Chinese surveillance aircraft believed to be derived from the Ilyushin Il-76 crashed in China on 3 June, killing all 40 people on board. Beijing officially identified the aircraft only as an unknown military transport, but Chinese newspapers report it is an airborne early warning aircraft called the KJ-2000, which has been developed locally over the past few years using the Il-76 airframe. The aircraft was on a surveillance or testing mission when it crashed in a rural area in eastern China, killing 35 mission crew members and five cockpit crew members. It is believed that there are at least two other KJ-2000 proto*types in existence, equipped with radar and sensors developed by a research institute based in Nanjing.

It was more than likely a transport but more important than how many were lost is who was lost. A lot of project leaders were on that flight.

Colonel, do you know what they were up to?

Normal crew complement for an A-50 is 15- 4 flight crew and 10-11 mission crew, so it seems more likely that it was a transport plane rather than an AWACS.

Speculation is that this was an initial flag waving test flight with a whole bunch of egg heads from Lab 14 and maybe even Lab 38. They've lost alot of senior people.

The plane that crashed was a modify y-8 with a blanace beam no a IL-76 Mod. Photos of the crash confirmed it.

The only way a Y-8 can take on that type of external mod is using FBW, and we all know how tricky FBW can be.

Under the leadership of new Geneal Cao, the COSTIND is finally making a different in all over R&D, especally in the area of radar. There is a sense of let's hurry as we are almost there. Notice how fact they put new version of Y-8 Mods into the sky, they currently testing 5 different prototypes witin a single year. It is amazing, they just mod the hack out of the Y-8 and took them for test spin with full equippment on broad. They paid for their carlessness with their lives.
