If you compare the bronzes of Sanxingdui (三星堆) to those of Shang Dynasty (商朝). They are both remarkable but in different styles.

Please notice, they put some Sanxingdui (三星堆) bronzes under the section of Other Shang Dynasty Artifacts.

Just a joke. No racist implication.
Many people who know this culture say those artworks look like aliens.

I am and speak Cantonese.

Question for the Chinese posters, or anyone else who can answer:

Is there a book or series of books on the military history of ancient China in English? I think this book: Zhongguo gu dai jun zhi shi is an official history of the anicent Chinese military. Is there any chance it is in English or if there is a similar book.

Thanks,

Herodotus

That helps some, but what I am really looking for is an official history of the wars, battles, tactics, strategies, weapons, etc. employed during anicent China before the unification. There is one such book, written by the Chinese military and their official historians, and it is in the Library of Congress but it is not in English. Amazon.com: Zhongguo gu dai jun zhi shi: Books

If anyone knows if this book can be found in English let me know, or if there is a similar book using similar sources that is written in English, that would also help.

If it is in print, the British Library will almost certainly have it

Couldn't find the English edition of that book, perhaps you can find something useful in this forum, it’s in English.

Actually, in English, "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" refers to two distinctly different pieces of literature. One of them is the novel as you noted, "San Guo Yan Yi". The novel is highly fictionalized, dramatized, and nearly romanticized. It features Zhuge Liang as a Merlin figure, Cao Cao as a villain, and Diao Chan was the most beautiful woman in all of China. In the actual history by Chen Shou, "San Guo Zhi", none of the three listed are true.

But I digress... this thread is not about the Three Kingdoms period...

The theme of the "Romance of the Three Kingdom" is Confucianism. It just praises 'Liu Bei' and portrays 'Cao Cao' as a bad guy, since Liu Bei represented the proper Han Dynasty authority.

That applies to San Guo Yan Yi only, not San Guo Zhi.
