Interesting question about the Viking Age.
King Harald of Norway lost the Battle of Stamford Bridge, right? But what if he'd won and had also beaten William the Conqueror? Then a Viking would be King of England. How would this have affected the Viking Age? Would it have ended as soon? And what about the Crusades?

The King Harold who lost the battle, and his life at Hastings in 1066 was born c. 1020. He was the son of Earl Godwin of Wessex. When the previous king, Edward the Confessor, died the Witan elected Harold as king. As it turned out he was to become the last Anglo-Saxon king of England. Now what was the question you wished to be debated?

Sorry but my knowledge of English and Scandanavian history is more suspect than OJ with a bloody knife.
Does that even make sense?

The first part is another 'what if' question that if started threatens to become as interminable as the WW1 & WW2 'What ifs' The Vikings conversion to christianity spelled the end of their warlike age, so the crusades would most likely have gone ahead. |
