Palin's best destiny is as a rallier of troops. It would be foolish to not let her speak, just as it would be foolish for her to use that opportunity to move the spotlight off of the RomneyBot 9000.

    It'll be a win-win for everyone.

I am questioning a need for her to speak at the convention. Fox news trips all over themselves to get a microphone in front of her and she would get 3-4 interviews through the day. Isn't that a bigger audience? Besides why blow the wad too soon? The base is already fighting mad and energized. As the GOP "Rah Rah girl" wouldn't she be better used a week or two before the election to keep the base going down the final stretch?

On the other hand, Bush is sitting this one out. If Palin and other "key people" do not attend/speak it could send a message to the undecided and/or independents that the republicans do not have all their ducks in a row.

Any one remember the last time a healthy, immediate past president didn't speak at the following party national convention?

Dunno. I never pay much attention to conventions. I'd say it's W's wish to not draw attention more than anything else - remember that Obama's still blaming him for everything that's not working.

Bush recently spoke about this very topic:

“I don’t want to undermine our president, whoever is president, and a former president can do that, and I think it’s bad for the presidency itself.
“Eight years was awesome, and I was famous and I was powerful but I have no desire for fame and power any more,” said Bush referring to his presidency.

Bush, who has been relatively absent from public life since leaving office, said he feels "a certain sense of liberation" stepping out of the spotlight.

"Well the other person who has served as a role model for me for a long time was George H. W. Bush, who famously said once you leave the stage you stay off the stage, and I thought long and hard about that. And decided that not being on the stage was something I am comfortable with," said Bush.
A classy man. Good for him.

That is exactly why Bush should speak. Above all else he can deliver a message without taking cheap shots at the presidency. That would go a long way to attracting moderates and independents come next Nov. Without Bush's voice and people like him the GOP looks like a bunch of world hating right wing radicals. If your inside the party your views may differ.

Hah! You can't be serious. All the media and lefties of the world HATE GWB with all the passion in their cowardly little weepy pussies. He speaks at the RNC convention and they will resume their mindless chants of Bush Derangement Syndrome - no moderates or independents will be given a fair shake at forming an opinion any different than whatever one they have right now. Why give Obama a chance to run a campaign against a guy who's not running for president a second time?

Conventions aren't for moderates or independents anyway - they're for the base.

All rhetoric aside, sure Bush isn't well loved by the lefties, but Like I said having Bush speak..."would go a long way to attracting moderates and independents". That would be because the majority of the current outspoken republicans are quite a bit farther to the right than Bush. Sure, put fire in the souls of the base, but you know as well as I do that preaching to the choir isn't going to win any elections. You have to have the swing votes and those people will be paying attention to the convention too. Obama isn't going to waste his time and money campaigning against anyone but Romney. In the end it is the choice of the GOP Leadership. If they are so afraid of the media as you say they are more than welcome to circle the wagons, alienate potential voting blocks, carve off potential votes, and make themselves a lockstep minority in the voting process.

No it wouldn't. Like it or not (and I certainly don't), GW is damaged goods for now. History will judge him far more graciously, but we'll have to wait for that thanks to the BDS idiots.

    Maybe the nominating night.

Sure he will if he can. In 2008 he campaigned against Bush and Palin and pretty much ignored McCain. Since his election he's been campaigning every day against Bush, and in the last few months, reluctantly (and ineffectively) against Romney as well. Put Bush back in the spotlight and it gives him a bigger non-Romney target. Keep his target choice low, and on the right guy - the guy he can't hurt: the RomneyBot 9000.

Successfully registered for my Overseas Absentee Ballot. It won't make a difference because New York always votes Democrat, but at least I'm doing my part in the democratic illusion by exercising my right to waste my time for something that doesn't matter.

It's only paranoia if they're not really out to get me.

The Left stands for everything I am against, and they pursue their goals without regard to rules or decorum.

None of which changes the fact that your logic about why GWB should speak at this year's RNC is, at best, insufficient.
