SEATTLE – The man had been banned from the artsy cafe for acting out, but that didn't stop him from walking in, taking a seat at the bar and trying to place an order. After the barista declined to serve him, he stood up, took out a gun and shot the man next to him.
Then he worked his way up the bar, calmly taking life after life from the people seated there or scrambling for cover. One man tried to stop him.
Grabbing the only weapons at hand — bar stools — he tossed them at the gunman, even as the man aimed at him, Seattle Assistant Police Chief Jim Pugel said Thursday after reviewing harrowing surveillance video of the massacre. The tactic created enough of a delay in the shooting that two or three other customers were able to bolt out the door to safety.

The first thing I can say, and it doesn't go very far at this point, is I'm so sorry," Walter Stawicki told The Associated Press, his voice quivering. "It sounds so trite, that I feel their grief. ... I just hope they understand he wasn't a monster out to kill people."

Lots of disturbing news lately... Its too bad someone else in that place didn't have a gun. Does this kind of news coverage help anything?

Ya it shows that even when life is on the line, one person willing to stand up and say no can save lives. Who cares about the dead killer, I was referring to the hero, lost a brother on 9-11 and vowed to never hide under a table.
Good on him. Too bad he didn't have his own gun though.

Good on him. He did save lives that day, including his own.
My thoughts also. More people may now to choose to arm themselves after this incident. I suppose the anti-gun lobby would say otherwise.
LOL. I remember seeing this when it first aired. That show took on many of societies issues. The odd thing is that not much has really changed since then as many of the exchanges between Archie and Meathead can still be heard today.
Not everyone needs a gun. Just those who are ready, willing and able to do so when the need arises.

That episode aired Sept 1972. 40 years on it has not aged. AS you say the debate has not changed. Uncanny.
The thing that gets me is to be ready you have to be packing EVERYWHERE you go EVERY day.
That's just not practical unless its your job to wear one.
It's not that hard to carry everywhere that it's legal to. Not easy, maybe, but not hard.
