Let's look at it this way. Let's say minimum wage was $6.75 (was that the rate?). You made $7.15. You made more than minimum wage. You feel pretty good.

Congress comes in and decides to help you out. Congress raises minimum wage from $6.75 to $7.25. Instead of $7.15, you make $7.25 now. Did you get a raise?

Refuse to answer the question, eh?

    You should go into politics.

It was a very simple question with 2 possible answers:

    1. Yes I got a raise because I used to make $7.15 but now I make $7.25
    2. No I didn't get a raise because I used to make $0.40 above minimum wage but now I make minimum wage.

Did you need a teleprompter for that?

    The answer is number 1.

You didn't lose money because someone under you got a pay raise.

I never understood that argument. Its silly. You have more money in your paycheck than you did before. You got a raise. Simple

At my first job I was a touch over minimum wage. Now this was back in the high days of inflation. I was in a job shop, worked my ass off and was reduced to drinking the milk for coffee to get something in me by the end of the week. I mostly lived on cheap beer and peanut butter and cumberland farms bread. I had a car that was a gift from my family but many times road my bike 7 miles to work or hitchhiked because near pay day I had to choose between food and gas. I lived in a crappy apt in a crappy neighborhood in crappy Meriden ct....just some background. I was thrilled when minimum bumped me up on occasion. A nickle an hour was several loves of 39 cent cumberland farms bread and a quart of genese beer. I was snarky because it was such a simple question. People near minimum wage. Are thrilled with any raise any how just like I was. When your struggling day to day to eat or buy gas you aren't worried about. Not being quite as poor as someone else anymore.
I was dirt poor almost 3 yrs. Being poor sucked.

In that case, you should welcome inflation. Everyone has more money to spend.

Raising minimum wage is a form of inflation because the cost gets passed on.

Doesn't matter how much money you make, minimum wage is minimum wage. Other people adjust their prices to that. The cost is passed on. The purchasing power might get a short term boost, but inflation catches on.

Let's try this. Index everything in the economy to inflation. What is the end result?

Recent public retirees getting a pension worth 80% of their final year's pay, including overtime, for life, plus generous health care benefits for himself and the spouse as well. No Obamacare here.

Only vendors and contractors are getting IOUs. Employees and pensioners get real cash.
