Missing' Governor Mark Sanford admits affair
Mark Sanford was out of contact with his family and aides for four days
    Tom Baldwin, Washington

Mark Sanford, the Republican govenor or South Carolina, finally ended the mystery over a bizarre week-long disappearance by confessing on live television yesterday that he had been having an affair with a woman in Argentina.

Two more 'family values' politicians bite the dust. You'd think people would have twigged by now.

I don't think Sanford really ran on family values.

He's a conservative Republican in a conservative state, I'd imagine (especially when he has to be a hypocrite atop a podium) it's part of the package.

It was weird though, there was the deputy governor Bauer on TV here who seemed very critical of Sanford - what's up with that, tense relationship?

Although it is not true that all conservatives are stupid people, it is true that most stupid people are conservative.

Not necessarily. Obama is very liberal and socialist but he opposes homosexual marriage.

Sanford did a boneheaded thing. People should be critical of him.

There could be something political though. I don't know about SC, but in CA we elect a governor and we elect a lieutenant governor. They don't run on the same ticket. SC could be like this and the lieutenant governor is a democrat.

My understanding is that his main appeal was lower spending less government.

Heck, he is an Episcopalian, he can't be a family values conservative.

While his post seems to be elected seperatly, he is still a rep, not a dem.

I sort of doubt that Bauer would be much of an improvement. Apparrantly his biggest success was a bill that allows "religous license plate for cars".
    uh I might be wrong

He did not run on the same ticket as Sanford, but he is a republican. As you said, Sanford deserves criticism. But its possible, indeed probable that Bauer wants Sanford to resign so that he can take over as governor.

    A bill that Sanford opposed.

He did a very bad move. By SC law the gov must appoint the LtGov in charge whenever he leaves or is indisposed.

He didn't do that. The State was without leadership while he was gone. If something had happened , the LtGov did not have the authority to make decisions for the State.

They were playing clips of Sanford slamming Livingstone and calling for him to step down for adultery as well as ads of him talking about raising his 4 boys and his christian family so yeah he was a hypocrite
