(btw: when Star Wars Episode One was released in Germany, the leaders of the Bad Guys [Federation of Something] where all givin extreme French Accents in the dubbing. Rumor has it that George Lucas insisted on this..)
Kinda off topic here; but the American version of Episode 1 has the trade federation with Chinese accent and the big nosed blue slave trader with a Jewish (or Hebrew...) accent.

As I told my wife this AM about Sanford, the old saying goes, When you are in ahole, put the shovel down. Its not put the shovel down and switch to a backhoe!

dont remember that guy. Though I only watched that movie when my ex-gf forced me to...and I dont really know what a jewish accent is. The jews I know speak just as everyone else. (to bring this further off-topic: how comes that so many blacks in the US speak with a "black accent"? I would understand a accent based on where they grew up, but that does seem to hardly play a role...and I've only noticed this with American Blacks and nowhere else)

Regarding Sanford: Regarding if he should step down...for me it would play a big role what his performance on the job was. I can forgive quite a few personal missteps as long as the work is still well done. When he was the leader of the Republican Governors Association he must have had some succes right?
    uh I might be wrong

Some call the "black accent" ebonics... You can see a vivid demonstration of it and the related culture in the new transformers movie. There were 2 Autobots who act and talk like they are uneducated *ahem* urban folks of a specific ethnic group. I call them Ghettobots. I thought they were completely unnecessary for the storyline.

I guess the "Jewish accent" is more of a northeast American thing. Large number of Jewish immigrants late 19th and early 20th century congregated in New York I believe, speak with sort of a Yiddish accent in their "Brooklynese," which is in itself a weird accent.

Yes, back to topic, Sanford should resign for dereliction of duty.

Indeed. A man who is unable to fulfill his marital vows should hardly be expected to be capable of fulfilling the duties of governor.

Yet such men have been extremely successful politicians, Presidents, Prime Ministers etc. (at least 3 of the past 5 Australian PMs have been unfaithful, and possibly 4 of them). One could just as easily say that a man prone to drinking too much in in the same boat (Churchill), or a man suffering from a mental illness (Churchill & probably Lincoln) or any number of other issues.

Such simplistic judgements are unhelpful and are invariably applied unevenly. I have no problem skewering a politician who panders to the 'family values' crowd with his own infidelities, just as I have no problem 'outing' a homosexual politician who supports legislation limiting gay rights. Short of such blatant displays of hipocracy or lawbreaking, however, I think that the personal lives of politicians are no more my concern than mine should be theirs.

The real issue here is that the man left his post for an extended period without properly informing others & then continued to decieve them as to his whereabouts. For a person elected to lead a state or a nation this is unforgivable.

Yes, but if a politician has a lover he should be open about having one.

Preaching about family values and cheating is a different thing.
