The fed may control up to 60% of GM. Well, there goes any chance for me to ever buy a GM car.

Same here. Next truck is a Toyota. Next sports car is a Mustang. Which is real tragedy because I've had a few Camaros and was hoping to get a new one. Ain't happenin' now, NO WAY! Get ready for the new Barackillac! Pft! They can have it!

If a GM car blows up in the future due to shoddy design or workmanship, who does the victim sue? The feds?

Maybe GM should lower the quality a bit. Obviously high quality doesn't sell.

Or there could be other factors like the design, ergonomics, efficiency, reliability...etc.

Or there could be yet other factors like every worker at GM is supporting 3 retired pensioners.

I found it interesting the jobs pool where they got paid not to work is a newer benefit. They got it in 1990. If that isnt mismanagement then what is?

Part of the problem now is cache. Us coastal folk look down on American cars a bit. I have a chevy myself but everyone wants a honda etc.

That was instituted in the late 1980s when GM renegotiated UAW contract. The union fought tooth and nail to preserve those jobs. As a concession, GM created this "jobs bank" to pay some of the people not to work. It was supposed to be only until they find new jobs. But they never left.

What's wrong with a Honda Accord that's built in Kentucky? Where was your Chevy built? In the US or Mexico/Canada?

I will buy the car that suits my needs at the lowest price with the highest quality possible, with good drivability and good ergonomics. I can't find that in a GM car.

According to whom? Consumer Reports found something very different: Quality of cars and free markets

Thanks. I think these results line up decently with the Consumer Reports results given the scores for the rest of the GM line and Ford and Chrysler (among the lower scores in the JD Power rankings).

I find it very interesting that several things GM is doing now are what William Deming called the seven deadly diseases. The focus on short term profits, the excessive medical costs from the executives to the manufactorers, etc. Ford is the only American car company that really listened to this guy who really helped out the Japanese auto-industry. Strange that they are the only ones who aren't bankrupt now. Who is this guy well I know about him because he is the most famous alum of the engineering college I attend and thus during freshman year you get beat over the head with his info. Here is a link if you want more info, wiki I know but the info matches what we were taught in class that and it gives links to other sources.

    W. Edwards Deming - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I am bummed because I really like GM trucks, especially that they now decide to put a V8 in the Canyon/Colorado, but sadly unless they really turn it around, doubtful, I think my next purchase will be a Tacoma .

On a side note do you think that they will add a title to President Obama? I hereby give you President Obama GM C.E.O.

GM announces that it is selling Saturn to former racer Roger Penske.

NEW YORK – General Motors Corp. has a tentative deal to sell its Saturn brand to auto racing magnate Roger Penske's dealership group, both companies said Friday.

Penske has signed a memorandum of understanding that would give his dealership chain, Penske Automotive Group, Saturn's 350 dealerships, the companies said. Penske said that he expects to offer all the dealers new franchise agreements and will retain all 13,000 Saturn employees for now.

"I would expect that the model that we're putting together, the distribution model, will be profitable day one," Penske said in an interview with The Associated Press. "We'll have less costs. We'll not be in the manufacturing side."

Neither Penske nor GM would say how much Penske is paying for the brand. Penske said he expects the deal to close in the third quarter. Initially, GM will continue to produce on a contract basis the Saturn Aura sedan as well as the Vue and Outlook SUVs. But Penske said he is in talks with global car manufacturers about building Saturn cars in the future.
Penske might have a shot at making a go of this. Saturn should have made money for GM, not sure why it didn't.
