The human mind cannot grasp the causes of phenomena in the aggregate. But the need to find these causes is inherent in man’s soul. And the human intellect, without investigating the multiplicity and complexity of the conditions of phenomena, any one of which taken separately may seem to be the cause, snatches at the first, the most intelligible approximation to a cause, and says: “This is the cause!"

Thank god its over. Maybe now some sanity will return to the American parts of the intarwebs.
For Gallifrey! For Victory! For the end of time itself!!
well it gives the reps 4 or 8 more years to regroup and come up with a better plan, if they dont disolve.
im holding out for the blue dogs and fiscal cons to come up with a party i can believe in

No surprise either. I've been predicting it for months.
Historically a 2-term party rarely retains control of the White House.
George H.W. Bush did it only after an exceedingly popular Ronald Reagan paved the way for him.
There's simply no way that John McCain could expect to win, campaigning against the backdrop of George W. Bush's rock-bottom approval rating.
The key now is: The Democrats are in control. It's time to Put Up or Shut Up.
Their man is office. Their party controls, albeit not decisively, the national legislature.
Their journey, their job, their responsibility now begins.
They've been screaming at the top of their lungs that They Have A Plan.
They've been screaming at the top of their lungs that The Messiah Is At The Gates.
Well, as I have said many times here in the past: "OK Dems....Now What?"
It's all on them. Put Up or Shut Up.
Among the community of nations, Pakistan today stands out on one hand as a petty thug brandishing a dangerous weapon, and at other times as a concubine, sleeping with anyone willing to pay for her expensive tastes. ~ Tarek Fatah
I wait with bated breath to see him do anything productive. If he does anything but fail I will be surprised. I intend to point out every minute mistake Obama makes, anytime he misspeaks, if he stubs his toe, if he blinks inappropriately, much like liberals have been doing for the past eight years. Everyone join me and I promise the next four years will be fun, we may make a democrat or two cry!
Sometimes things dont end up how they should, a son, a brother, a mentor, a teacher, a cousin, a nephew, a grandson and a god in my eyes.
Who knows what he more could have been...

My Brother, Always and forever
I voted McCain, but I'll do my duty and offer my loyalty to Obama.
I agree with bolo121 -- Glad this is over! Now NPR will go back to reporting real news!
Ugh.
For the next two years it's a mule-pull in the Senate, with re-enlistment dropping off in the military, and more Americans dead from terrorists.
But any lost job or lost right in the next 2 years is NOT MY FAULT.

I'll have to say ditto to tophatter. The time for fuss is over, the time for results begins. Let's see how the democratic party holds up under fire.
now maybe with a change in government wall street may rise
There is no such thing as free lunch
The good thing is Obama has a history of going back on his word for political expediency. We just might avoid universal health care, higher income taxes, higher capital gains tax, higher energy cost, and most important of all, spread the wealth.
Like I said, if he does well, I win. If he's horrible, I win. This is a win-win situation for me.

Remarkable journey for Obama. I congratulate him. There's a silver lining. My country achieved a milestone in racial relations. I am proud of that. When a country with only a 12% black population can elect a black, it's a sign that issues finally matter more than race. And there's a message in it for the world: democracy rocks.
Now we have a few problems to solve. Let's get on with it. I'm glad he didn't get a filibuster proof Senate. That will help tone down his social agenda.
Congratulations to all you Obama supporters. It was a good debate for the most part. Watch out in 2012.
