Seriously? Given how pacifist Japan is nowadays, I really don't see how either side has to worry about conflict.

If you can figure out what the NKs think, I can get you a 6 figure job at an out of the way office.

However, Asian hatre against Japan is no secret.

Wait...South Korea and Japan would have a war if the US wasn't there? That strikes me as odd considering they have China and North Korea right on their doorsteps...plus what would they be fighting about? A couple islands?

I'm assuming it would be South Korea wanting the vengence. But they would have to know that Japan is wayyy more powerful right (at sea anyways)?

Such wars are often not based on sound strategic decisions.

I would say not! South Korea instigating a war with a much more powerful Japan, and with North Korea at it's back? The South Korean who did that would have to be crazy!

I have news for you. Any country that starts a war with Japan would very quickly gain alot of allies. You want to see how fast North and South Korea unites? Start a fight with Japan. Very soon after that, you have China at least giving moral support.

Ever noticed that the 3 closest American allies in Asia (Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan) can't stand each other?

    Japan is extremely hated.

Its too bad nobody made them apologize after WWII like the Germans. If they'd just shown the slightest humility towards the people they butchered and abused...but no, they've kept the image of the arrogant imperialist Japanese alive in the minds of the peoples of Asia.

Japan may be hated, but how far would you trust the North Korean's were they on your side?

The latest spat is the new revelations regarding North Korean atomic bomb victims. This group (pip'okja in Korean, hibakusha in Japanese) refers to conscripted Korean laborers forced to work in Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II, who found themselves inadvertent victims of the bombings in Aug 45.

According to Korean sources, of the 80,000 Koreans in the two cities in 1945, approximately 40,000 perished and 30,000 more near the hypo center of the blast were irradiated. About 23,000 of these A-bomb survivors returned to Korea after the war.

In response to DPRK demands for compensation, a Japanese foreign ministry fact-finding mission (led by Asian Affairs Deputy Director-General Sato Shigekazu) reported that some 1,353 cases (928 alive) existed at the end of 2000 in North Korea.

Whether compensation for these victims will be dealt with individually as civil cases or folded into a larger normalization settlement is unclear. In the South Korean case, official compensation by the Japanese government fell under the 1965 settlement, but supplemental assistance was provided periodically by the two governments (e.g., 1981 cost-sharing for transporting repatriated pip'okja to Hiroshima for medical treatment; the May 1990 Roh Tae-woo- Toshio Kaifu summit produced $12.6 million in Japanese assistance to ROK Red Cross).

Yes, but I don't think such a conflict is likely. Japan is capable of defending itself against all non-nuclear comers, and South Korea cannot trust North Korea at it's back.
