I didnt know so much about him until I read his stand on the issues. I knew he seemed a good man and now I supplement my position. I'm all for him as a President and would vote for him above ALL others. This is the man we need in office in 08. He would certainly be a breath of fresh air.

Like I said, I want a Reagan, and this guy seems closest to that form.

He radiates authority, and THAT COUNTS. He seems to act with intelligence, and THAT COUNTS, TOO. He's a man of principle, and THAT COUNTS MOST OF ALL.

What is also important is how well he is positioned with other lawmakers at the White House. I read somewhere last night that he is to meet with many lawmakers, at their request, tomorrow, to discuss his candidacy for President. It seems many Republicans want him in the race....really, really bad.

Would we consider a Thompson/MCcain ticket for the future? Or Gullianni?

Count me in if he does. Logic in politics would be a refreshing change.

McCain. No one appreciates freedom more. And he has the guts to stand on on Iraq. I like his work on campaign finance too.

So you like the idea of only the wealthy being permitted to make a realistic run for public office? And for political speech to be suppressed 30 days before an election?

Everyone on the list is a distant 2nd to Fred Thompson.

whoa....That's not what McCain-Feingol did. It outlawed soft money contributions to political parties (remember Nixon's slush funds); raised the limit on hard money contributions to candidates; and banned unions from skirting these rules by prohibiting them financing third-party political ads during the last 30 days of the campaign.

That's certainly the way they sold it. Unfortunately it prohibits a guy with a million dollars who would make a lousy Senator (say) from giving more than a couple thou to a guy who would make a good Senator. And not only unions are stopped by the 30 day mark.

It was probably meant well but achieves the opposite of what it intended. It needs to be repealed.

I'd rather see it challenged and go all the way to the Supremes to be so positively killed with extreme prejudice that the very question of revival in another form would be impossible.

Possibly. But I think Thompson appreciates it just as much.

You do hold a valid point on freedom. Being a POW would certainly make you appreciate freedom very very much.

It had its day in court and was upheld.
