I am one of those people who is fundamentally locked in an "I don't know" position. I agree with both sides to be honest, and I think I reflect a good percentage of the population. It isn't a black and white issue. It is debatable IMO.
On a side track...My wife and I are eager to adopt a baby, but like most people we find it to be extremely expensive. There is no way you are going to be able to adopt internationally or domestically without forking over approx. 15,000 dollars, even through the state. If you decide to go private which we have tried as well, the expecting mothers get to chose. Good luck with that if you are middle-income and not affiliated with a church. People wait 5 plus years for a domestically born new-born to adopt.
The second problem you face is the possibility that up to a year into your new family, the birth mother can reclaim the child from you. Only through international adoption can you avoid this. There are a lot of really good people out there who cannot have children who would make excellent parents. When I hear about an abortion, I can't help but think, "We would have loved that baby!"
