    Abramoff bought the dems too.

Most Senate Dems Took Abramoff Cash

Nearly ninety percent of Senate Democrats took money linked to disgraced "Republican" lobbyist Jack Abramoff, according to a list compiled by the Republican National Committee.

Though reporters continue to insist that the Abramoff imbroglio is "a Republican scandal," 2008 Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton took more than $12,000 in tainted cash.

Compared to the party's 2004 standard bearer, however, she's a piker. John Kerry raked in nearly $100,000 in Abramoff-linked donations.

In fact, 40 of the party's 45 U.S. senators made the Jack Abramoff dishonor roll, including:

    • Senator Max Baucus (D-MT), who received at least $22,500 in Abramoff-linked cash.

    • Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT), who received at least $14,792 in Abramoff-linked cash.

    • Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND), who received at least $79,300 in Abramoff-linked cash.

    • Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), who received at least $14,000 in Abramoff-linked cash.

    • Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), who received at least $2,000 in Abramoff-linked cash.

    • Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), who received at least $45,750 in Abramoff-linked cash.

Of course they did, do you honestly think the money-go-round is limited to just one political strip?

Not a single democrat has ever taken one dime from Jack Abramoff or any of his associates. The democrats are, however, guilty of taking money from Indian tribes 'associated' with Abramoff, but thats besides the point. I do not blame Republicans for taking money directly from Abramoff and his associates. Nor do I blame Democrats for taking money from Indian tribes. My problem lies with the possible buying and bribing of votes. Lord knows how many Duke Cunningham's are out there? I guess we'll learn more as Abramoff starts talking in the comming weeks.

If they're dirty... I say, throw em' out. Starting with Bob Ney (R-OH).

sure you are. Where is the list of republicans? And judging by your past posts, you don't seem to ever attempt to be. Sure, I know you'll fire back at the same argument, which has some base. But I never claimed to be fair and balanced.

You can attack the source if you want, but the data was provided by the Federal Elections Commission. The same info can be found at Open Secrets (campaign contribution database) and Capital Eye (ran by the Center For Responsive Politics). And again, we have the same results. Not a single Democrat on the list.

Speaking of sources... Your orginal post lacks a source link.

It is a given that some repubs are going down. No need to repeat the obvious.

Possibly some dem's too. Im worried about Sen. Harkin (D-IA) (used Abramoff's skybox to host a fundraiser) and Sen. Dorgan (D-ND) (Vice Chairman, Committee on Indian Affairs), possibly Harry Reid too. Rep. Patrick Kennedy also received a significant amount of 'Abramoff linked' money ($130,000+).

All of the above could be in deep you know what... I guess we'll find out in the comming weeks and months when Abramoff starts singing.

Prediciton: This exchange from CNN will come back to haunt Howard Dean:

BLITZER: Should Democrats who took money from Jack Abramoff, who has now pleaded guilty to bribery charges, among other charges, a Republican lobbyist in Washington, should the Democrat who took money from him give that money to charity or give it back?

DEAN: There are no Democrats who took money from Jack Abramoff, not one, not one single Democrat. Every person named in this scandal is a Republican. Every person under investigation is a Republican. Every person indicted is a Republican. This is a Republican finance scandal. There is no evidence that Jack Abramoff ever gave any Democrat any money. And we've looked through all of those FEC reports to make sure that's true.

BLITZER: But through various Abramoff-related organizations and outfits, a bunch of Democrats did take money that presumably originated with Jack Abramoff.

DEAN: That's not true either. There's no evidence for that either. There is no evidence...

BLITZER: What about Senator Byron Dorgan?

DEAN: Senator Byron Dorgan and some others took money from Indian tribes. They're not agents of Jack Abramoff. There's no evidence that I've seen that Jack Abramoff directed any contributions to Democrats. I know the Republican National Committee would like to get the Democrats involved in this. They're scared. They should be scared. They haven't told the truth. They have misled the American people. And now it appears they're stealing from Indian tribes. The Democrats are not involved in this.

Yep, nothing like denial to fan the flames of investigators...

whether you are a "Republican" lobbyist or a "Democrat" lobbyist, you are first and foremost a lobbyist, which ultimately is all about money and getting your clients best interests looked after by the powers in Washington.

Any dirty lobbyist(is that redundant?) is going to have people from both sides of the isle on his "payroll".

All in all, if you are dirty you should go to jail. Don't care what letter comes after your name.

Malaysia ex-PM: Abramoff was paid $1.2M

No need to post another thread on this scandal so I will use this post to update date this one.

Mahathir says disgraced lobbyist got funding to arrange meeting with Bush

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said disgraced U.S. lobbyist Jack Abramoff was paid $1.2 million to organize a meeting between him and President Bush in 2002, but denied the money came from the Malaysian government.

Mahathir told reporters late Monday he was aware the payment was made to Abramoff, but he didn’t know who made it.

“I understood some people paid a sum of money to lobbyists in America but I do not know who these people were and it was not the Malaysian government,” Mahathir said.

Mahathir said that at the time he had been persuaded by the Heritage Foundation in Washington to meet with Bush because the conservative think tank believed he could help “influence (Bush) in some way regarding U.S. policies.”

In a report last week, The Los Angeles Times said that Abramoff received $1.2 million from the Malaysian government for his lobbying services in 2001 and 2002.

According to the Times, which cited an unnamed former Abramoff associate who attended meetings with the Malaysian ambassador and the lobbyist, Abramoff allegedly contacted presidential adviser Karl Rove at least four times to help arrange a meeting between Mahathir and Bush, which took place in May 2002 in the Oval Office.

    Guilty plea
Mahathir visited the White House at a time when Malaysia had emerged as a key U.S. ally in the war on terror, following Mahathir’s crackdown on suspected Islamic militants. However, Mahathir had been consistently critical of Bush’s foreign policies, and chastised by the West for his anti-Semitic comments and human rights record.

Abramoff, once among Washington’s top lobbyists, pleaded guilty last month to charges that he and a former partner concocted a fake wire transfer to make it appear they were putting a sizable stake of their own money into a 2000 purchase of casinos.

Abramoff also has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from an investigation into his ties to members of Congress and to the Bush administration.

According to documents released by U.S. Senate investigators, the Malaysian government had paid $300,000 to a company connected to Abramoff as part of a broad lobbying strategy that included arranging two confessional trips to Malaysia in January 2002 and a trip by then-House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and his wife in October 2001.

It is unclear if the $300,000 is included in the alleged $1.2 million payment to Abramoff.

That new revelation above must be why they wanted to delay Abramoff's sentencing.
