I these medivial/tribal cultures women are considered as a "commodity", and if this "commodity" is defiled by another man, then their family honour is insulted. So to regain the family honour the poor woman has to bear the brunt of the punishment.
A "commodity" cannot be snatched but has to be given away. Thats their view point.
