One of the (somewhat stupid) reasons the Japanese didn't commit superbattleships Yamato and Musashi to the Guadalcanal battles was a desire to keep their existence (the fact that they were so huge) a secret until that "decisive battle" that some of the guys mentioned earlier.

Another foolish mistake was making first Yamato and then Musashi the flagship of the Combined Fleet, essentially a comfortable hotel for a lot of admirals who should have parked their arses on a shore base like Truk and took the flagship muzzles off of the battleships.

This however is all just hindsight and ran counter to Japanese culture
